"It looked to me as if the English have gone backwards into the bad old days of kick and rush.
"I am not sure if the England coach Fabio Capello can still change much there."The English are being punished for the fact that there are very few English players in the Premier League as clubs use better foreign players from all over the world."
Prophetic words?
I'm not a huge footy fan but these last few games seemed to have opened up something of a rift exposing our national squad.
Thinking along Franz's lines, is this historical or it it the way the Premiership operates?
Many teams English seem to be owned by companies or private individuals. Does this stifle local talent? Is there no long term view to the domestic game other than money to buy in foreign players?
Does this pose a problems to the other European teams? How do they avoid this problem - as Franz B sees it?
of course he's right
and creative talent is killed off at a young age
if chelsea has to play english players, they wouldn't be the champions. but same is largely true in most top leagues.....
I'm not qualified to comment on the state of the English game, only ever watching big tournament footie as an interested observer, but England/the English/the English media do suffer from a complete and utter inability to appreciate the idea that a world cup win in 1966 is no basis for the assumed superiority that characterises football in this country.
We're a bit crap basically.
I'm sorry but look at all the top teams in any league in the world and they are all full of foreign players! Inter Milan had 1 Italian player in their championship winning team, Barcelona has loads in theirs, Bayern Munich has loads too - the reason being club football means MORE the the national game now. Sad state for all countries. Wjat it boils down to with us is we believe foolishly that ours are better than theirs!

I'm keen to better understand why you think this is - or might be (adds to the list above).
Surely grass roots football has never been so contested.
The parks are full of league teams on any given weekend.
I think when foreign leagues are full of English players, the situation may improve, but most want to play at home because the rewards are good, and, possibly, the standard isn't as high?

crazy. so where are these foreigners coming from....

I coached youth football for 7 years. The FA does have wonderful ideas and plans. Unfortunately most coaches just want to win games even with kids as young 4. They want success at any cost so tend to use kids with a bit of talent and aren't interested in development. So they win for a few years with these kids but because they've been biged up that don't improve and eventually it all collapses.
Plus you have the leagues were everyone is pigeon holed and they tend to stay in their pigeon holes.
Finally there seems to be no emphasis on fitness and Uk players are not becoming modern athletes. There's loads of problems, but from day one most parents are happy to see their kid win a match but have no concern for their kids footballing development. It's wrong from the start.
Surely most big-ish teams have talent scouts and youth developemnt staff & a system to progress up through the local professional side with specific youth development?
