preferably a niceish looking piece of wood rather than MDF or white laminated board
about 130x65 cm - one with a bit of a curve on it, the other flat sides
Where might I find such a thing ? (not B&Q, it seems)
Anyone care to guess at a cost ?

cheers, (never been) would they jigsaw to size/shape as well ?

Not the one i got, but could work for you, you would have to jigsaw it to get the shape you want but might be an option.
Ikea table tops are Vika, so do a search to see the sull range.

They just seel pre cut and finished sizes.
Wickes do sell premboard a wide sanded timber blank that you could stain or varnish
