I fancy a short break in Sicily next month. I'll only have a pink slip for 4 days or so and would like to do some self-guided walking.

Thinking fly in el-cheapo to an Airport, public transport out of the city and then some hotel-to-hotel day hikes in a circuit back to an airport. Im particularly interested in taking in some antiquity sites as well as "out there" mountain routes.

Does anyone have any tips, recommendations of areas, sites/amphitheatres etc to visit, hotels or even routes?

I went to Sicily a few years back. The only places I went walking properly were on Etna and around Taormina. I'd recommend both. I stayed at the Hotel Excelsior Palace; pretty old school but the good type of old school ๐Ÿ™‚

On really done touristy stuff but get the impression the back side of Etna is nice for walking/less touristy.

I did a run in the hills behind Castlemola / Taormina, lots of small farms and barking dogs, but beautiful hills!
