For around the campsite for the kids (no phone signal) and maybe skiing. And because I've always fancied a pair.

Worth a punt?

Use the talker t80 @ work. (For events)
Range is good. Sound quality okay but not the best.
Battery Life is good, charging takes ages tough.

We bought the normal t80 instead of the extreme because we were told the weatherproofing on the extreme muffles the Sound a bit.

Certainly looks better than the 1-way walkie talkie I had, that was shite

I've used these at work. Pretty good for the price.

The Motorola looks a lot more refined and sturdy though.

I've got a pair they are well made & survived a rainstorm, however it's easy to cycle out of range in a few minutes so they have hardly been used. Any legal (ie restricted power) walkie talkie will have the same problem, don't go over a hill!

The Baofeng requires a licence to use in the UK, £75 for 5 years I think. Much better range/higher power though.

Also the Baofeng are not weather sealed and you'll have to program them for the PMR channels (and power output) so you'll need the special USB cable (approx £2) and CHIRP http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

Saying that I use a Baofeng for a cheap I'm not worried if I trash it 2m/70cm handheld for amateur radio and it works pretty good.

On phone and won't link but waterproof Baofeng on Amazon. Licence option

The range on the Baofeng really benefit from a better antenna such as a Nagoya na-701

I guess you realize you need a pair, same channel and both switched on, don't you?

We use three pairs of those Motorola radios, they're really good. Ours get used week in week out dropped and abused and still work well.
