Just saw this. Every tornado warning siren, all 156 of them, went off at the same time at 11:4€pm on Friday.
I can imaging how scared people were and it is totally irresponsible, but as a hack it does seem relatively benign. And I'm grinning like a child...
Here in Der Schweiz, once a year they test the 'Public Warning System', which is a 'get to the bunkers' siren for nuclear disaster, natural disaster, French coming to do their shopping...
Been here 10yrs, and every time it puts the shitters right up me. Real strong, hackles up, adrenaline pumping, bringing back memories of every nuclear disaster movie I watched as a kid in the 80s growing up near the Holy Loch, FEAR.
I'd be under a table whimpering if I was in Dallas!
I used to work in a couplex of offices for start up design and architecture companies. There was a general alarm system and then an ad hoc bunch of individual alarms various tenants had installed in their own offices.
We had a live-in caretaker / handyman with a flat within the complex plus day and night security guards. The owners decided to economise- laid off the night time security guard and moved all the alarm sounders to the caretaker's bedroom- right above his bed.
Managed to get a non-Swinley local going at 10am on a Monday morning once, about how the sirens meant there must have been an accident at aldermaston 🙂
There's a siren that goes off at NPL in Teddington each Tuesday morning.
You can hear it in my spare room / office in Twickenham...
1st Monday of every month the civil emergency sirens get tested here in Hollandland.
Nobody takes any notice any more.
