Have we done this? Search is showing nothing.
I can't find an English source, but you can use Google Translate: http://transports.blog.lemonde.fr/2017/09/01/volkswagen-vs-cyclistes/
TL;DR: VW ran an advert at a football match in France between France and the Netherlands with the slogan "We are not going to let a country of cyclists bar the way" (in French), apparently aimed at the Dutch (and the "we" being France, not Germany).

Not sure. What is the this? I'm thinking it was a light hearted bit of poking at a nations stereotype of being cyclists? I think. I'm not sure.
TL:DR: I am confused. Can someone just point me at the thing I need to be angry at please.
I got as far as this
sโapparente ร un mega troll,
Which is a phrase which should be used far more often on here
Well, it's in bad taste. Thing is you see that the Germans are pretty much universally hated in the Netherlands. Not in the way that we mock ze Germans, but hated in the way that a country that was invaded and occupied for 5 years by the Germans might feel. Indeed approximately 20,000 Dutch civilians died from starvation when the Germans deliberately cut off food supplies in the winter of 1944. There will still be many Dutch people still alive who lived through this. I guess it's akin to someone like Toyota doing a slogan around building railways..
I have also had occasion to lie about my emisions.

You forgot to mention nicking loads of bikes from Holland as they retreated in 1944/45, hence the "We want our bikes back" banners at Holland-Germany games, and the jokes at the expense of Queen Beatrix's German husband ("You can't park your bike where, Prince Claus is coming" "It's OK, I've locked it")
Fair point that, of all their many crimes, the large scale pilfering of their bikes was the most heinous..
Oops - Double post
It's VW France doing this, not VW Germany? So the German/Dutch relationship shouldn't be an issue?
But also it could be considered self-deprecating because cycling is really popular in France too and in fact the national sport, ne c'est pas?
