on cable... just got a new laptop and going to set up wireless etc. Now I want to get a VOIP phone / account, but dont want to have the laptop on all the time, just want to keep a regular phone plugged into the router.

I think that is possible... but dont know if i need an account out in the either... and which router would be best.

any suggestions.?.

Neil.

not helping with your specific questions, but do you need wireless? i have a couple of plug things that turn your mains wiring into a network. bit pricier, but higher bit rates than even the latest wireless standard, and no security worries. the set i have is made by devolo ( dlan 200 aveasy ). plug it in, connect one to your ethernet router, one to your laptop, away you go.

you'll only need an account with someone like skype if you plan on calling out to non-skype users ( mobiles or land-lines which are not voip ).

sorry if this is grandmothers/eggs 🙂

del: cheers for that.. the skype phone is a good idea, didnt know such a thing existed.

as for a wired solution, the other half wants to use the laptop around the house... spotify / iplayer and the like along with a wireless printer / media storage. I will check into the wired box thing though, as wherever she sits there is a plug socket... and with a large amount of data going over the network, it might be the best solution.

A proper techno revolution going on at radford towers.
