We like Dave but it's no longer on Virgin TV . How else can we watch it?

Our telly has freeview , I assume we need an aerial to make it work.

Yup. It's on Freesat too, that would require a satellite feed and a Freesat box.

Watch it online? Or UKTV Play app.

Didn’t you watch everything the first time round?

No Dave? Really? Well that’s another nail in the coffin for me with Virgin.

They lost all uktv channels - Drama, Really, Yesterday, Home, Gold, W, Alibi, Dave, Eden and Good Food.

You can blame the BBC/Discovery.

You can blame the BBC/Discovery

Sounds like you can blame both sides in this.

Virgin wanted all the UKTV content broadcast on their catch-up service, not just UKTV originals and certain repeats but wanted to pay significantly less overall.

UKTV licences a lot of the content, not just from BBC and discovery, but from 3rd parties too. So virgin were asking them to take a lot less money whilst increasing their licensing fees.

UKTV wanted the same deal as before and didn't really budge (why would they, it's popular).

No one wins at the moment

Looking at the list of channels I would say the viewer wins, at least they have fewer clicks while browsing to something interesting.

On demand service is available on Netflix if that's any help.

we've got it on the amazon firestick.

not a lot of fun trying to watch stuff on the android app on my tablet.  Awful buggy app, constant shutdowns.

On another note, the latest iOS update screws up WiFi connection with superhub 2. The only fix is superhub 3.

What other channels can you get with a fire stick?

Searches just come up with US results.

there's a couple of things i've tried to watch on catch up with virgin recently that aren't working either. when it reports the error it points at the 'we've binned dave but look at this other great stuff you've got instead' message, oddly, but the things i've tried to watch are C4 or E4.

My thought was great - no more sodding TG repeats fro my two grown up lads to watch.  To be honest I can't say that I'll miss Dave or any other ones.  This is just a case a Liberty and UKTV going head to head and both are losing.  UKTV needs Virgin to distribute its channels and Liberty needs the content from UKTV.  I suspect that there is an answer somewhere.  But will I cancel my Virgin TV, Internet and Phone on the basis of losing Dave - no.  Ironically enough we have an aerial plugged into the TV, so we can always get it via Freeview - but don't tell the lads!

I've been on to Virgin today to try to get a reduction in my charges. Currently on 100MB/FunTV w/Vivo/Weekend calls.

The loss of UKTV makes my Fun package basicaly equivalent to the basic Player package.

They are currently offering 100MB/Player TV w V6 box/Weekend calls to new cusomers for £29 +£20 setup. They are currently charging me £60.56/mo, the best I can get them to offer me is £45/mo.

I'm going to sign up with Sky for £8.33/mo, trying to time it for just before I have a holiday, then as soon as I get back, re-sign with Virgin, while paying off Sky or just letting it run, my calc say that puts me £300/yr better than I am now. My only question is how long do you have to be away from Virgin to be treated as a new customer. Anyone know?

Problem with the freeview/sat stuff is a lot of the free channels aren't in HD.

I'm not on Virgin (would never ever go back to them after past experience. Awful), but had Sky for decades and I'm wasting a vast amount on 99% of stuff I don't watch. TV has freesat so tried the satellite cable in it, but really limited in the free HD channels.

Not sure if you can tune in manually without the EPG, though I suspect the HD ones are encrypted hence the Sky HD subscription to get them.

UKTV app works on Amazon Fire, but it seems to be limited to selected on demand stuff and no live TV. Not that you need live TV Dave as it's all repeats. Plus the last series of Red Dwarf episodes were available on-demand a week before the broadcast dates.

Surely nipping to a car boot sale on a Sunday morning and buying a box set of Only Fools and Horses for a quid will do the trick?

Midlife,  I'm thinking of cancelling , saying that I'm leaving the country and getting my wife to be a new customer.

Luckily she has bank accounts in her maiden name.

Good old Freeview?  Just need an aerial...

What do people actually pay Virgin/Sky/etc for?  There's a few channels which I guess I'd like but generally good shows end up on Amazon or Netflix eventually.  I guess its the football or something?

I've got Virgin.

Still only on the semi's in the World Cup and have 27 episodes of Columbo that I haven't watched so Dave never had a look in.

I can't stand Clarkson and I've seen QI, is there anything I've missed?

Hilariously I just read that the same might be happening to ITV:  https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/jul/26/virgin-media-could-lose-itv-programmes-in-long-running-dispute

Im starting to wonder if Virgin are being dicks 🙂

To be honest ive been asking myself the same question. Virgin broadband is easily the fastest there is and a whole package isn’t that much extra when you consider how much the internet service would cost on its own.

However ive been finding my virgin internet isn’t as good as it used to be. The speeds aren’t as good and the WiFi signal was a bit naff but it keeps cutting out now too.

Internet service is going to cost £25-30 a month if I leave and I’d have to get an aerial fitted for freeview and get some way of recording it too. So a sky service at £40 a month isn’t too bad and I’ll get more channels and a better WiFi and a nicer interface too.

With Virgin, the way they structure the packages means that often if you just have basic TV, that it's not much cheaper to lose the TV bit, if you want to keep the phone and broadband. So it's marginal really to have the v6 box and (most of) the freeview channels.

Went Virgin for the broadband, which is generally excellent, as is the customer service.

Only a few quid extra for the V6 box, which is a useful bit of kit.  Still have Freeview via aerial so can mix and match, but Virgin picture quality is better.

Only the basic channels but that's fine for us.

Dave is back but the sport channel that replaced it has gone. Enjoyed watching FIM trials with Warner commentating.

Still available for us but the channel number's changed, it's, like, 552 or something now. 🙂
