Anyone else sick to death with these video ads that slide into the site every few seconds?
I get that STW needs the revenue, but find another way.
Just discovered this morning that following a link from the forum to YouTube app ends up pausing what I'm watching every time said advert slides in on the previous window. Took me a few minutes to work out why the video I was watching kept stopping and random music was playing.
This combined with seemingly anything useful content wise being behind a paywall is making this site less and less useful. If it's now interrupting other apps, then I'm done.
Yeah, they are massively annoying. But the obvious answer is obvious...pay up or put up!
I'm no longer a subscriber so just accept I have to put up with it.
I browse this forum in a window mode usually whilst watching YouTube on my phone. Everytime the ad slides in it pauses my YouTube vid and starts playing.
Even with that minor technical disruption, I don't mind. I dont subscribe to singletrack so if this is what is needed to provide revenue it's a fair trade-off and contribution.

Even subscribing doesn’t stop the * things.
You’d think they’d manage to design a website (like many others) that auto logs you in with your details.
But no. So every time I visit here I’m logged off, then one of the stupid * video ads pops up at full **** volume, and often that freezes my phone, so I have to close the window and try again.
It’s shit.
There are enough other adverts on the page, I can only assume that the scatter gun approach is to hope for an accidental click and some revenue. In my experience hardly anyone clicks on them anyway they are just an annoyance.
Appreciate that they are making an effort to up subscriptions, but hiding most of the content behind the paywall kinda makes it hard to find out if it's worth subscribing. Especially when it's linked from Facebook etc and you get 2 lines of text before "SUBSCRIBE"
Anyway, that's off on a tangent. Bloody video ads, grumble grumble. At least make them so they switch off when the app is in the background.
I'm amazed no-one's mentioned it before.
Things you can do which will help:
You can disable video auto-play in any decent browser.
You can report it using the form linked from the help button on every single forum page. If ads are noisy, it's a mistake.
You can report it by emailing Tech.
You can complain directly to the site owner by emailing Mark.
Support the site and keep the lights on by paying a few pence for a subscription.
Things that you can do that won't help:
Start the 17th thread this week whining about it. They're more tedious than the adverts. If you'd read the thread that was literally right next to this one before I posted you'd have seen Mark's response saying he was taking it up with the advert delivery service.
I can't find the other thread again but @mark might want to note that the autoplaying noisy advert is back. so either someone at ST Towers has reverted the code, or the Ad Company is not doing its part, or more likely the Advertiser is being very naughty and working round the rules.
