Anyone know if a Passat TDI B4 intercooler is a similar size to one from a B5?

Loads of B5 ones available on the bay but not for the B4, I was wondering if I could shoe-horn a B5 one in.

I know I could go to other sites, but I can't trawl for this stuff at work. I can sneak on here every so often tho 🙂

The B5 has twin intercoolers i think ... one on each side of the radiator area ... well, mine seems to anyway. The pipework for my B5 is bizarre compared to what I'm used to.

I did a quick bit of looking around online.....

From what I gather the B4 & B5 refer to the car platform, rather than the engine or anything.
The B4 is older than the B5. The B4 has the 1.9TDi whereas the B5 has a 2 litre? Is that right?

I also saw some mention of the B5 having twin side mounted intercoolers.

Molgrips, you might have more luck if you search for the engine code, rather than the platform number of the car?
The 1.9TDi in my Ibiza is an ASZ - yours might be the same if you have the 1.9? Do you know if your intercooler is front or side mounted?

I don't have an intercooler already being an early B4 fitted with the AAZ TD engine (as opposed to TDI). But there's a slot for an intercooler which is where it goes on 1Z and AHU TDI engines in the same body 🙂

AAZs don't come with I/C but there's a space for one, so I thought I'd add one. I could get a long thin front-mounted one and stick it just in front of the radiator but that might end up obscuring the radiator a bit too much.
