Haven't got time to make from scratch - what instant product is nice for veggies, to go with a turkey dinner?

Not sure the veggies will like the turkey dinner bit of that meal.

Most supermarkets sell a vegetarian gravy just buy that add boiling water and stir.
asda, morrisons and aldi all sell one.

I like the Bisto roasted winter veg granules. Add a good sprinkle (tblspn) of Marigold Engevita B12 savoury yeast flakes and/or a teaspoon of mustard with a teaspoon of honey. For the water component eep back some of the veg water rather than using tap water straight from kettle.

Even if you are so rushed that you use water straight from kettle - simply stirring in some honey and mustard will transform something 'OK they're only veggies' into 'tasty - I love you the same as meat-eaters!'

In parts of France, they think chicken is veggie so that must mean Turkey is too.

Don't you love it when unrepentant militant meat-eaters slip a bit of secret meat into a veggie? It feels so rapey and illicit! And it often makes the veggie look dumb as - because what if they like the taste!!??? Idiots!! Lol veggies pwned. Even if they didn't like it and they keep quiet - there's still the satisfaction of knowing you got the meat into them without them knowing! Either way they lose! Stupid veggies looool.

It is definitely veggie.

I tend to add a bit of Marmite when I use it, though. Not sure how that stand in the veggie stakes - yeast?

poah that was nearly funny but the lack of any mention of bacon really stopped that from being oh so funny

I would say try harder but i think you should try less.

I was thinking Bisto Best Onion gravy when I clicked on the link! Tastes nicer than the "meat" offerings IMO, plus as a bonus the flavouring doesn't come from cow scrapings & bumholes.

Will have to try it with marmite next time, that sounds awesome!

Also plus 1 on Marmite. It's a secret veggie weapon - I add it to to all our veggie/vegan sauces/gravy/pies etc but usually also add a touch of honey or sugar to balance out.

Will also try the onion Bisto if I see some. Mmmm gravy.

Lol yes - almost typed 'to go with turkey'! Rest assured we aren't intending to feed her actual turkey.

Couldn't find bisto best. Looked at the normal veg bisto and it's just a tiny bit of stock with potato starch. So I bought Knorr concentrated stock which is mostly stock, some potato starch (aka Smash), and some marmite. Already have honey and mustard in the house.

Re marmite - can't stand it as a condiment but will secretly add it for some umami to soups and whatnot. Could do the Mrs some good as she's frequently tired and anaemic.

i dont have dinners that require gravy usually but when my mum does nut roast for me she makes it from bisto

I know it's what you asked, but I have a home-grown and finely honed recipe for veggie gravy if you want it.

Bisto FFS? Bisto? I'd rather not have any 'gravy' than have that shite.

Regular Bisto is crap, but the "Best" is pretty decent. The onion gravy and roast veg gravy are both veggie. I like to mix the two, maybe with a small dollop of cooking Marmite and / or a tsp of tomato puree.

Ok. I call it red gravy.

Slice a big red onion (or a couple of small ones), fry on the lowest heat in a splash of oil and a knob of butter until translucent and sticky.

Remove from heat, add a tablespoon of flour, bump up the heat and cook for a couple of minutes until the flour has a texture like sand.

Add ~600ml of stock, a quarter teaspoon of thyme, and a teaspoon each of onion granules, paprika (not smoked), Marmite, tomato puree, a bay leaf and a small pinch of white pepper.

Simmer until thickened and reduced by about a third / half. Top up with water if it gets too thick or the flavour is too intense (it's potent stuff). Add gravy browning if you want it to look like beef gravy.

So I was about the give you my red onion gravy recipe but it appears Cougar has been in my kitchen 😉 although I like a bit of garlic with the onion, I leave out the paprika & marmite (if you use bouillon for your stock it will be plenty salty) & make it really s****y with a dash of red wine at the end. Bisto FFS

Semolina is another fave we use to thicken liquids, you don't need much trust me on that.

I've absolutely no idea. The flour thickens it, I suppose rice flour would do the same thing, it's starchy?

It's actually hot sports energy gel coloured brown and meat flavoured.
