We had a T5 that had an aftermarket bench seat fitted, all approved and essentially identical to OEM. Insurance was absurd as it was a modification. In the end we removed all the seating and fittings so it was a conventional 3 seater. It came with the van so I can't recommend a fitter, soz

Where are you?

I had 2 + 1 seats fitted into a Trafic by Seafield Coachworks in Edinburgh. The seats were subsequently removed when I had the van converted to a camper. I still have the seats if you are interested.

Did my own. Relatively simple to get some sliding rails in there (with good spacers under the floor to distribute any unwanted forces) then got some minimus seats that'd fit and had integral seatbelts.  Honestly not that hard to do.  Appreciate that doesn't answer the op but it's another option.

If your insurers are like Kormoran's and go loopy at Modifications then try Aviva. My T5 has all the usual stw approved trinkets and they don't bat an eyelid.

Where abouts are you? I know of a couple of places but you might be miles away from me.

We have a t 5 with rear seats but are looking at a crafter as there are bigger which is good for work and play  , I’m in west Dorset, I’m not  so worried about the insurance as there are a few firms that do mods

You can self fit but I'd recommend a fitting kit that's been M1 crash tested if you are strapping anyone you like into them.

Seat legislation is mad in this country. Basically you can do what you like in a van. Even if it's blatantly unsafe as the fixation of aftermarket seats are not MOT tested.

Some insurers are now asking for M1 compliance certificates which can only be a good thing really

There are some shady fitters about. I looked at a van recently that had pro fitted seats and they just had 4 small reinforcing squares under the floor pan. Just crazy. I did find a good one that did taxi conversions and sold seats and provided m1 testing certs but it's on my work pc.

It's up to you really. Do some research. Ask questions to the fitters. If it doesn't sit right go somewhere else. You'd be surprised how much force goes though a seat in a 40mph crash. There are more on the market now than 15 years ago when I first started asking questions about safely to seat suppliers for my various vans.

Cheers,

Wessex Vans in Bournemouth did mine.  Really impressed.  They gave me all the paperwork for changing the V5 too.  I insure via AdrianFlux.
