Bought a box and the box itself smells a bit like poo.
The teabags are in little envelopes and smell like a mixture of licquorice / poo.
Is this right?

yeah that stuff reeks. taste is ok though and they knock me right out. a bit too much as sometimes the next day is a slow one to start. Go for a weak brew to start with.

Just smelt mine - my tea bags that is not my poo. Can sort of see what you mean though -yes perhaps a faintish smell of licquorice and poo.
Can't say they helped with sleep if that is why you are trying them.
