So been using this cheapskate method of having a laptop data backup location and iTunes library so that sonos can play when laptop is not on. All good for a year and then suddenly the hdd is no longer visible. I assumed that the unit had gone pop as its "on" all the time but no. Plugged into a laptop direct it works fine.
any reason this would happen and what the solution would be as I'm flummoxed ? Thanks.

The USB hard drive on my netgear router went all funny a while back; it wouldn't spin down when not in use and sometimes wouldn't appear on startup. In all other regards it worked fine. Swapping the USB cable magically fixed it...
Low power usb port.

This was my suspicion too. I'll have a look at the router sw options to see if i can be reconfigured. Can't be that the port is too low powered as it was working fine before. will try the cable though if still stuck.
