We have a shower in our loft conversion "en suite". Sink and shower, no bog. We have a downstairs shower that is the main shower as well as a bath so the en suite shower is unused. The only time it has been used was when we were doing the bathroom up. Actually it does get used but only when the p trap starts to whiff and I run some water through. Door is warped as well so it does leak if you were to be taking a proper shower in there.

So what to do? I'd turn it into a storage area if I had my way but my partner says keep it as is because you never know when you might need it. A loo would have been a better option as I do use the loft to sleep in when I'm on funky shifts but that's a whole new problem re pipework etc. so a no go (ha) there.

Can't you mothball it, ie protect everything shiny, and still use it as a storage space?

Would be a shame to simply rip it out and how much of the volume do the fittings take up?

Bit of mdf on the sink top, tap off and in sink, shelf unit on top. If the shower door is broke then it will need replying so you may as well take off now anyway. Again, shelf unit in there?

Or, as we've just done, sell/give away/bin a load of guff that we never used taking up storage space elsewhere!

Its effectively mothballed as it is and I see no further use for it. The sink is handy for brushing teeth in etc but the shower offers nothing apart from a fishy pong every so often to remind me to get flushing the trap out.

Ripping it out would be a house devaluation exercise imo. I think I'd be going for a semi dismantle to make it more effective storage and a quick bring back to life when you sell up. Could you take the shower door off, turn off the water and mastic down a bit of something over the drains to prevent a pong? Shame about lack of bog - an en suite for a guest room without one seems to be missing the key ingredient.

Just pee in the sink.

Stick a bog in there and use one of those crazy macerator type things - Saniflo I think.

Will the room take a WC?
If yes you’ve already got supply and waste pipes so a saniflow (jobbie chopper) might be the answer.

I'd be a bit concerned about nasties breeding in the shower inflow as well as the waste. At work were running all the taps once a week to keep them clean whilst WFH.

Right well I think the immediate option is rip off the door (as I said, warped at the bottom so leaky), put down some mdf sat on top of some kitchen cupboard legs and use it for storing vacuum, ironing board and such like. We have no utility area so all that stuff lives under the stairs with all the costs, shoes, bags and young kiddy paraphernalia.

Each time I go to vac up or do some ironing I can whip up the base, run the shower a bit to keep things fresh and that will be fine for the time being. I will look into fitting a loo in the future as that could be useful, more useful than a redundant, noisy shower with a leaky door.

Thanks as ever for your replies and words of wisdom.

Pull the drain grate, stick some mild chemicals into the ptrap and a drain test plug to seal it off?

We have the same set up to our bedroom (shower and sink). Been in the house over 5 years but never used the shower.

To be fair it's capped off now as the mixer barrel developed a leak and I haven't got round to buying a new one.
