I have a blackberry and nokia 5800 to unlock, but this seems a bit too simple?
Not sure TBH, I'd question it too. It's easier to take it to a local shop who'll charge a tenner.
It's legit and it does work. The unlock code is basically a function on the IMEI number.
There are sites that'll do it for free, I unlocked a 7610 a few years back online and it was extremely easy.

no 5800 on there?
IIRC this works on older models but not the modern stuff. A bit of googling nokia forums should answer it.
EDIT it is possible to unlock, de-brand and upgrade your firmware by changing the product code but you lose your warranty and it's a bit involved.
I've used this site to unlock several phones in the past
not sure about modern phones though
BTW the site I posted is free, you don't even need to text them - I suspect it's the same "magic" behind the scenes
CALLS LAST AN AVERAGE OF 3-4 MINUTES, DEPENDING ON HOW QUICKLY YOU ENTER YOUR INFORMATION.
From the link on OP so £4.50 to £6.
Best method personally is taking it along to one of those high street shops...did a couple of Sony-Eric phones recently that were locked to Vodafone and they were a fiver each. Tried to do it online but it didn't work on them.
Illegal to change the IMEI number IIRC

+1 and it's FREE.
all the phones you buy here in China are unlocked... no contract nothing...
Therefore the phones are a little expensive.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but I thought the phones were cheaper in the UK, as the companies subsides the price of the phone.. wouldn't that make it 'not right' by cracking them?

Not if the phone no longer belongs to the original owner and the company did not want it back.
uplink - they're not changing the IMEI I dont think.
I went into carfone warehouse recently to see if they would unlock my old N5500 Sport. They advised that as it was locked to Voda, I should go across the road and see them - they are legally obliged to unlock them if they are out of the initial 1 year contract. This was a second hand phone I'd bought on ebay, and was over a year old, so I went over and asked them. "No problem, as long as it works with our software" was the answer, and it was free.
I know that after they lost their exclusivity, O2 started offering to unlock iPhones for free:

Unlocking doesn't get you out of the monthly contract though, so the subsidised price of the phone is protected.
