Apologies up front - I've been up since 2am, had a crap day at work, and am struggling to get my head around something. It's only basic arithmetic but have reached the point in the day where my brain has stopped working. 🙁
I share a flat. Since we moved in, I've picked up all the utility bills and my flatmate has dealt with the council tax. I'm now moving out, and we're reckoning up.
I've paid £1000 in bills. He's paid £770 in council tax. How much money does he owe me so that things are settled?
I'm pretty sure it's £115, but I'm so tired I don't trust my logic any more.
Cheers,
Dave.

Total bills 1770. Between two is £885 each. 885-770 he's paid is £115.
Rest asured, despite the hard day, you're not that addled.
£115
Yup; you should each have paid ((1000 + 770)/2) £885, so to square up he should pay you (885 - 770) £115.
There seems to be a lot of over-complication to a simple question.
Divide the difference (£230) by 2 - and yes, you'll come up with the same answer.
