One thing I still can't wrap around is the fact that Russian conscripts get about a month of training then sent to war. At week 4/5 of basic I still knew absolutely **** all in the grand scheme of things.
Putin really is a ****. A long and painful death seems too good for him.
The issue with anything other than victory for Ukraine and a return to pre-2014 borders is that it sends the message that it's ok to achieve goals via aggression.
The historical precedent for what comes after letting that happen does not bode well.
Wow pretty stunned if izyum gone already. Amazing.

Err, I think that horse has well and truly bolted. A long, long time ago.

That one even pre-dates Herodotus much to our species shame
Svatobo?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I repeat: !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
And furthermore, !!!!!!
If true it's bonkers

Putin must be seething!
Anyone got any reliable MSM reports of what is going on?
If they've left Svatovo - possibly without yet coming under attack, then what might that suggest - a retreat to the 2014-2021 borders in the East? Try to consolidate those and reinforce the South?
Unfortunately the entirety of British media has disappeared into a monarchy black hole
Does seem that Kupyansk & Izyum have been recaptured tho

It’s impossible to tell at this juncture. It could just as easily be propaganda from Ukraine to sow seeds of panic in the Russian forces or even Russian propaganda to try & tempt the Ukrainians to over-commit
Azerbaijani news quoting DPR official confirming retreat from Izyum

They must be well out of artillery range of their embedded guns by now.
Ok if you have tanks as back up to the light armour amd infantry otherwise you do risk getting punched in the face if you meet some real resistance.
If the fast moving forces can clear lines along the river north snd south a big encircled area and defendable position is achievable very quickly.
Pootin needs to be assassinated. Russia then forced to sell discounted oil and gas to Ukraine as a penalty for being stupid bullies, who add a little margin and sell it on at pre war values to the countries who provide material of war.
Win win, apart from environmental impact but hopefully this will be enough to kick renewable energy production up a gear
Pootin needs to be assassinated.
I do think that will help in the long run, the belief in Russian Russian territorial Imperialism goes further than one man.
The one thing I find slightly worrying is the Russian media line of ‘poor ickle Russia’ now being overwhelmed by superior NATO supplied forces. I hope they are not preparing the ground for something like tactical nukes to be used.
As above... Hard to see the truth behind all the noise (telegram channels I follow are going crazy). If its true and russia are being pushed back then I fear for what options they will pull out to recover from this rather major embarrassing situation
Maybe the UK isn't the only place playing game of thrones right now?
It's going to put huge pressure on Putin. Even if he were to use tactical nukes it still looks like a loss regardless.
The tweet re Svatove/Svatovo was deleted however there are many many more, it seems like it might've happened.
Maybe the UK
There's rather a lot of Russian rhetoric which mentioned the UK/Britian/England out of proportion with "NATO" which I find disturbing.

All the oligarchs have lost their cash stashed in London: Not happy bunnys
Is it just me or does the room suddenly get really dusty when you watch the videos of the first Ukr troops coming into liberated villages and all the little babushkas coming out to greet them.
This.

Have the Russians actually just realised they can't hold what they thought they could and giving up or is it a complete rout!!!?!
From what I been reading on Twitter, it seems to be a rout.
I wouldn't be surprised if the morale is as low as some are saying, those Russians will be interested in fighting.
I hope this turns out to be true. Could easily lead to regime change in Russia.
Is Pushilin running away ?

The dominoes are falling really fast now! 🥳
At some point Ukr AF well have to slow down and take stock, surely!?
A full-on collapse in Donetsk is still some way off, but how many of the Donetsk soldiers have been deployed elsewhere, or derussified by this war ?
If that does happen Putin's position suddenly not so secure
A full-on collapse in Donetsk is still some way off,
Less than 24 hours ago the fall if Izyym was still some way off.
I'm really try not to sink onto joyous hyperbole but right now it feels like nothing is off the cards so long as the Urkainians can keep their spear tip supplied and have units behind them to secure what's been taken, deal with POW's etc.
And so far... that's exactly what they seem to be doing, its proper textbook, gold standard stuff. The NATO trainers that worked with them must be weeping manly tears of pride.
The last few days have been incredible.
At some point Ukr AF well have to slow down and take stock, surely!?
That's what I keep thinking - and maybe get some time to eat and sleep?!
The good news is just pooring in thick and fast right now
BBC News - Kharkiv offensive: Russian forces retreat as Ukraine takes key towns
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62860774
So a collapse of military discipline in the Kherson region, I wonder if it will spread as news reaches other areas of the RA?
I wouldn't like to hope for a full rout just yet.. But it seems a lot more likely than it did even a few days ago.
Apparently Donetsk airport which has been in Russian/DPR hands since 2014 has fallen to Ukraine! That is a major blow for Russia. I don't think they've taken Donetsk city yet but with the speed they are advancing elsewhere who knows?
Still my worry is what is yet to come as a small act of vegence, defiance or blatant act of desperation.
My hopes are that the tea will be made very differntly over the next 24 hours.
"Anyone got any reliable MSM reports of what is going on?"
I've found this thread to be as good as any given the current media myopia.
Russia is locked in competition with the US...to supply Ukraine with the most amount of military equipment

Apparently that's a video from Crimea, not accurate for the current situation.
Apparently it's a Photoshoped video of England football fans in 2016.
Russia has an internal security threat about to appear at its borders. Those “colonies” it created and their militias are heading to the Russian border. A border that up to now has been porous. A significant number of Russian troops will be needed to disarm these militia. Otherwise internal threats (which might already be there for Putin) will become a significant issue for Putins regime.
The eastern regions of The Ukraine have to date been mostly held/occupied by these militias.
