Looks like a weapons research facility has also gone up in smoke too. https://twitter.com/igorsushko/status/1517145872609341440?s=21&t=eHvYHTqfUpHcZ_2jQWXugA

<PS: I’m involved in a party wall dispute here in Warwickshire, so strategically I’m on another level!>

Sorry for making light of all that. Can't believe the Russians are doing what they are doing!

Wife reported from the park: Ukrainian kids playing football. Living with a local family.

So Go UK (maybe me included)!

Looks like the 2 building fires are confirmed.
Apparently the rocket development office had plastic cladding inside and ropey wiring.

I seem to remember reading somewhere, that even in the defence of Stalingrad, Russia had many divisions held in reserve.

I would think this is still the case and there will be troops kept aside, that probably never be used in this campaign.

No, they've basically thrown everything they have at Ukraine and failed, they don't have the reserves you are imagining. They are having to use confiscated civilian vehicles because they lost so many trucks. Those civilian vehicles will not stand up to the abuse that military vehicles are designed for. They seem to be out of smart weapons too. The only thing they really have left is a huge stock of old artillery so they will probably try to dig in and rely on that.

Putin has had a major medical issue until I see him walking or his left side profile I'm calling stroke or some other brain related issues.

Not that I'm a doctor. That table is going to need a good polish to get those finger grip marks out.

The amount of materiel value “lost” by Russia would seem to be a surprise to those at the very top though.

Said it before, but the irony of a government that's stolen everything that it possibly can being surprised that other people also have stolen everything that they can, is sort of delicious.

This is the same Jacques Baud who thinks the Skripals had bad foods poisoning and were victims of the Mafia? But perhaps more insidiously  denies that massacres in Homs in 2011 and in the chemical attacks in Ghouta, Khan Cheikhoun and Douma were carried out by the Syrian Army? I think he's served as a useful "expert" for Bashar Assad on  a couple of occasions.

Check your sources more closely BillMC,  I think he's just a shill

Jacques certainly has, but I will read it.

The rest of that website doesn’t inspire much confidence (I’m the wrong sort of left) but I guess as a political opinion site I guess that’s fair to give that slant.

BillMC - even after your dig at my last post, I still red the whole article. It is littered with half truths and downright mistruths.

One incident I know intimately (Ryanair jet forced to land in Belarus) is completely wrong.

It smacks of trying to legitimise propaganda by giving it a trustworthy western source.

No digs dants, if it was the post I'm thinking of I was just amused by tanks requiring AA batteries. I know people on here like to keep informed with a wide range of evidence and debate.

This fella is well worth a squiz:

What I want to know is why as some-one from the left, you'd post up an article written by a pseudo-leftist reactionary written to support a deeply right wing authoritarian-kleptocratic regime?

If your thought process is just "This is anti American, and therefore i will support it regardless of its veracity or end goal" You need to check your belief systems.  Fascist/authoritarian regimes getting support from far left reactionary groups is pretty well historically documented. You're being used as a patsy - see Glenn Greenwald, Julian Assange etc etc

I see Boris has just announced deeper defence and security ties with India. Hands up who thinks it's a good idea to get in bed with a country that has historically been in a "special and privileged strategic partnership" with, and still gets 60% of it's weaponry from Russia?
My guess is he's licking his lips at the thought of all those arms we can sell them and ignoring everything else.

I would be more concerned about the authoritarian tendencies of its current leadership rather than its partnership with Russia. Given the poor performance of those weapons it does look like a promising market though especially since India got screwed over with the aircraft carrier they got from Russia and the accident stats for the migs are insane.

Considering we're doing a deal to ship asylum seekers to a country that we recently condemned for human rights abuses, I don't think that'll enter into his thinking.

I've spent the morning thinking about BillMC choice of article here, and honestly I've come to the conclusion the far left (I doubt they'd use that phrase, but whatever) have really lost touch with reality over Ukraine.

The double standards are there for everyone to see, accusing folks who're defending Ukrainian resistance for being "pro-war" or "anti peace" a stance that they'd never think about using for Palestine, or Yemen, or Iraq historically. The over-emphasis on the involvement of the Azov brigades, placing the onus on Ukraine to start peace talks, complaining about Ukraine being supplied with weaponry to defend themselves.

If you think like this, you are on the side of Russian authoritarianism My response from now on will be the same as from Snake Island

Digging around that Labour Heartland website, Paul Knaggs, editor and founder seems to have been caught up in the now traditional Labour anti semitism/islam squabbles a few years ago.

You can get an idea of his political position from here which I think is his Twitter feed

They've always been out of touch with reality. George Orwell fought in the Spanish Civil War, he hated fascists and joined an anarchist militia, fighting on the same side as the communists. The communists rounded up the anarchists and executed them, Orwell was lucky to escape with his life and some of his friends were murdered by the communists. Orwell was still a leftist, but he saw communism for what it was - a murderous tyranny. He got constant pressure from the left to not report negative things about communists, lefties just couldn't comprehend that Stalin was just as evil as the fascists so they just drifted along in a fantasy world where the Soviet Union was a workers' paradise and the West was a capitalist slave camp.

Holding in a ripsnorter?

Srzly though what happens if he snuffs it? Wouldn't change much short term, Russia still need to secure a fair chunk of Ukraine for the war to be politically justifiable to the Russian populace. They wouldn't just pack up and roll home.

I don't think either side can land the killer offensive blow so I reckon it's going to grind to halt with the lines not far off where they are now in the east. Ukraine will want Mariupol back but I don't think they could mount an offensive to secure it while the Russians hold Crimea.

6 pints of Guinness and a vindaloo the night before, I thought.

The more I see it the less I think it's really him. There's a hint of House Elf or Gringotts Goblin. Has he been replaced with an animatronic?

Well, if Putin does snuff it let's hope he'll lie in state long enough for mourners to be subjected to the same treat as those at William the Conqueror's funeral.

Surely if Putin does die Russia will stick to tradition and blame everything on him, withdraw the troops and hope everyone forgets about it.

Feel like that guy's a bit like a Russian Adam Curtis. Threads start off really interesting, then about 100 tweets in he's talking about a former head of the communist party who now runs a baked bean factory which donates to a fascist who used to go to school with an oligarch who funded a breakaway Komsomol group and you've forgotten what the original point was or where he's going with any of this. But it's all quite fun while it lasts anyway.

Or you might get someone who will be much more capable and belligerent who will not forget their "defeat".
