Earlier today I was reading about the extra £50 fee for people applying for visas, and sent some of my friends a 'heads up' the following is a short email conversation I had

hi there i don't know if you have seen this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7951721.stm
but just thought you would like to know, silly uk.
andy

Thanks for the news. *** and I must save GBP 1,260.00 for applying our next UK visas until Feb 2010. 🙂

what it costs £630 each for UK visa!!!! I'm sorry to bring the bad news! how many ? is korean visa for me? You have to re apply in 2010?

The fee of applying for UK visa was GBP580.00 each, which I was expected before I got the news.
It's all right Andy. I always appreciate that you always try to help us. 🙂
Yes, Both of us must apply for new visa one month before 31/03/2010. We must leave this country immediately If Home Office reject our applications, and also the fee is not refundable. The worst thing is that non-EU visitors who intend to stay in the UK for more than 6 months must always carry their own Home Office issued ID card that contains their biological information, such as finger prints, D.O.B, visa type, address, name, unique individual number and data for face detection. Yes, ??? and I have already provided our biological information to Home Office. They said they will give the cards when we renew our visa. They can track us by CCTV or whatever without our agreements. No offence, but that is what Nazi have done to Jews during WW II. Do you know the ID card with 'J' for Jew issued by Nazi? And also I feel like I am a potential criminal. Do not get me wrong.
The fee for all types of Korean visa is GBP28.00 unless you are American. It is GBP25.00 if you are.

I have never personally been that bothered about ID cards as long as I don't have to pay, but reading all the data they want 😯 why would anyone want all that info about me!! This government are a bunch of powerfreaks. Would this be the deathknell to freedom in the UK? I really know very little about this subject as it has never interested me before, but it does make me think a coup d'etat is in order. Anyone have some more info on ID cards?

I do not think the Nazis would have got such a bad reputation if all they had done was to issue foreigners with identity cards.

As a matter of principle, I do not much mind what relationship the state of which I am a citizen has with the nationals of other states within the UK's border, those other states have a similar right to subject me to terms and conditions of entering their territories. That it is cheap and easy to go to Korea is only relevant to me afterall if I want or need to go to Korea.

The basic point is that Koreans come here on licence, and the information they are giving is intended to ensure that they can be chucked out again if they outstay their welcome. That is petty perhaps, but to suggest that it creates a nazi state by itself is daft.

BigDummy I don't think my friend is saying we are a nazi country perhaps a little lost in translation, just I have never taken much interest in ID cards until i read the list of data they ask for. Do you believe say closing our borders would be a positive for UK citizens?

until i read the list of data they ask for

Which, as per you first post, would be this...
Finger prints, D.O.B, visa type, address, name, unique individual number and data for face detection (photo I assume this means)

All pretty standard data aside fingerprints. Do you say you got fingerprinted going into US? You gave your fingerprints to US immigration then?

Its standard practice now on entering the US to have your prints taken & photographed as well.

So you just dont want the UK to do it to foreign nationals even though you were quite prepared to give the data to the US and it didn't put you off from travelling there?

Not a Nazi like country mate they wouldnt have let so many 'unknowns' from 'who knows where' in. Which incidentally is why they want I.D. cards!
Is it true Gordon Brown has a tattoo of a hammer and syckle tatooed on his person?? I heard somewhere he did!

well I didn't know you had to before I got there and was in no position to say no after 14 hours on plane. I find it a bit sad my friend feels like a criminal in another country, I wouldn't want people from another country feeling they can't live here as they will treated differently to other citizens.

They seem quite keen on finger printing in the USA, I had to give mine to withdraw cash at a bank (as their ATM wouldn't accept any of my cards).

really thats odd unless they have access to the info. They actually have fewer CCTV cameras in the states than the UK.
