Jaques Anquetil, the first guy to ever win the tour 5 times, reportedly would often drink a bottle of whisky a day.

Mind you, he did die of stomach cancer. You know, after he REPEATEDLY NAILED HIS DAUGHTER IN LAW, WITH HIS WIFE'S CONSENT!!!!!

the only one one here it seems who can do 50 push ups no problem

even if that was true it's got very little relevance to alcohol intake

I've decided that I really need to cut back. It's not like I drink a lo in one go but I do tend to have a beer or two ever
Y night. Over Xmas I was starting to drink more and more. I'm now the heaviest I have been for ever and I'd put most of that to the booze. So I am making a concerted effort to cut right back and get back to where I was previously, maybe 2 beers twice a week.

I've never got drinking or the 'need' to drink. I do drink, but only when it's part of a social occasion or perhaps a meal.
Last drink was Christmas day.
So whilst I accept it, it is something that can kill you so to me it's up there with smoking.
And drinking culture? all very well singing songs and putting empty glasses on your head like a two year old, but the Friday night punch up and family wiped out by the old boy that's had just one too many aren't something I can embrace.

I concur with oldgit on the 'drink' thing.

Never understood the mentality of going out and getting massively drunk, and then spending the next 24 hours feeling like death and complaining to everyone that you're hung over and can't remember anything.

And despite not being able to remember anything, you're convinced it was a great night out 🙄

A few beers with some mates, couple of glasses of wine with a meal, fair enough.

Drinking for the sake of getting drunk - utterly pointless.

I will never understand the hangover thing as I seldom got them, 6 or 7 pints per night was the norm when I was younger, not getting excessively drunk, just social drinking. The pub was just the focal point for a large group of friends and there was always someone around that you knew. A few lapses of memory and errors in judgement, but hey, you're only young once.

Love wine, love decent beer. Living in the Languedoc is very good for one thing, not so much for the other (6€ a pint, don't even start on the price of a glass of whisky/ey)

Generally a glass or two for dinner, food optional, but never drink alone.

the idea that people need to be told you need to take a couple of days off the booze a week is a bit of a shocker.

A sad indictment of modern society

Maybe I have an issue but I find most booze very enjoyable, especially craft beers. I never get plastered though, and I more than aware I need to cut down, mainly for fitness reasons, I'm getting heavier and my bike is slowing down. Not cheap either.

I have a drink every day. 1 or 2 beers (I love real ale/craft beer) during the week and 3 or 4 on a Friday/Saturday. Yes I know it's just over the unit guide lines but I'm not really fussed. I may try doing the two days without thing but don't really want to. I work away from home and a couple of beers and a book is a nice way to unwind in the evening.

Am I going to hell?

Last night whilst chillin/relaxin/soundcloud deephouse mood stylee in the BouyHood, I sniftered a whiskey, a small single malt with an age less than I’ve been working here, t’was a prezzie from someone oooop North (gracias) and fitted a neat end to a very chilled day.
MrsBouy joined in, we snuggled on the sofa whilst the TV was on, sound down, and gobbled our way through a family pack of these:

Edit: I've been to Hell and it's over rated.

2 days..........is that all?? I struggle to do 2 days ON the booze, let alone off the stuff...

During the last 12 months or so I can take it or leave it when it comes to drink...but every now and again we go out for a couple of pints and I do enjoy it, but my body doesn't, so its easier to stay off the stuff.

Yes I would be a 'riot' as long as I was back home and in bed by 10.30 😉

yes. usually only drink two or three times a week. I went for three whole weeks without drinking at all in September and felt so much better by miles. Alcohol is not your friend.

I've had a few head in my hands moments the day after a heavy night out too. The sudden realisation that you have done/said something when you wake up and you say to yourself "oh no" 😳

Not really - I take it as a message aimed at people having a couple of pints or a glass or two of wine on a daily basis, rather than people getting completely pissed every day. By no means alcoholics, probably never get drunk, but according to new research it's still too much.

I'm ok when I go out, and when I do go out I would say I drink way too much.

I just don't go out all that often that's all. Every other weekend maybe ?

I could probably do that, but I'd have to start drinking a hell of a lot more.

been off the pop since boxing day, don't really miss it. Nice fresh start to the year. But when I do drink I tend to drink lots.

I drink a fair bit. Not getting hammered but maybe a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, 4-5 nights a week. Knocked it on the head though after NYE for 7 weeks during my fight camp. Don't miss it at all.

Did 12 weeks off the booze last year as part of a health challenge at work. Didn't lose any weight and can't say I felt any better or worse.
