Couldn't find a thread anywhere, wondering if anyone else here is still locked out, it's a monumental cock up, and become just a tad worrying now..

Not a TSB customer, but if I were I'd be talking to first direct (other banks available) and saying "please transfer my tsb account and direct debits to an account with you ASAP please"

I've got a small pension, rang the guy at Aviva to transfer to another bank, he was also having problems being a TSB customer and had tried to do the same, allegedly the banks can't communicate with them either. Then they could be just saying that..

I think the whole internet must be broken, I'm struggling to post this here, it keeps telling me, I've got a bad gateway, similar message to the TSB site, are they connected I wonder?

They have been going through a lot of IT transformation to sever the links with Lloyds, understandable considering they are "almost" a Standalone Bank these days.

Haven't they wavered all OD fees and Charges for April and will return any other charges?

I had issues over the weekend as expected, then patchy access Mon & Tues. Seems fine now though but then again I’ve not needed to move any money/pay anyone urgently so I’m probably one of the lucky ones.

I used my card last night and it worked it was contactless amount so may or may not have different rules, I have heard of TSB cards failing, I have a business account and am waiting for some money to clear, it's the main problem for me right now.. I'm still getting the message "Sorry internet banking is currently unavailable."

Seems to be a colossal change management screw up. My monies on the techies saying it's a bad idea, more testing needed etc. but pressured to flip the switch to be 'MOOOAR DIGITAL!!!'

Slightly confused about calling IBM in unless they are the service provider .. if they are, why aren't they there, if they aren't I'm not convinced they'd be my first call these days, unless they re hoping some kind of legacy warm fuzziness around 'you don't get sacked for buying IBM' still exists. That or it's proper broke, top to tail :-/

What about staff of business customers who haven't been paid and are running up charges with other banks?

Yeah, don't know... But suspect if your claims in they should look into recompense..

Most IT systems used by the Tier 1's are from the era of IBM mainframes from ohhh 1904 when a bloke tied two abacus together..

A lot of core issues relate to old tech not talking to ever expanded new tech drawing info off old systems that don't integrate too well.. 😉

Also PSD2 has a lot to do with issues around old tech and transaction regulations.. Not entirely surprised one institution has had issues, whose next?

IBM are end to end providers, apps, middleware, DBs, hardware, storage, cloud etc. Not actually sure what the main IBM bits are in the equation (likely a mainframe or two in there somewhere but I'd suspect a lot of middleware stuff to)

TSB are lucky this pre-dates GDPR given the reported data breaches relating to it. Will be interesting to read the technical details of the failure, assuming they're ever fully publicly disclosed.

Given that this a core part of their business and they messed it up any rational customer should just leave as soon as they can get their money out.

Not mine, I’m with Lloyds, who I’m quite happy with, but if I had an account with TSB I’d be frantically searching for any means to get my money out, and everything swapped to another bank! This is a spectacular clusterf*** by anyone’s standards.

Yes but the fact that it's happened, possibly means TSB will have learnt their lesson & so will best place to be rather than moving to another unknown bank?

Or.....

Surprised that the Mail hasn't blamed it on Brussels, given that it was EU rules which meant that Lloyds Banking Group had to be split up in the first place.

At least they don't have the curse of <spanstyle> <div> or massive smileys.

My wee brother's involved in the project, as he puts it "Well Lloyds is fine"

TSB's internet banking recognisably runs on Bank of Scotland's platform, they just tippexed out the logos. I think what's underneath a lot of this stuff (this is all my take not my bro's, for obvious reasons, I no longer work in banking so I can say stuff without worrying), is that TSB is supposed to be a totally different, independent bank but in reality a lot of it is basically like this, still lloyds/halifax/BOS stuff under the hood rather than there really being such a thing as a TSB system. So basically they've got no choice but to do some drastic changes which is where the big risks are.

Wouldn't have been such a big deal back before banks all decided that you don't need a branch within an hour's journey. I've still been very happy with TSB on balance- I like the cashback, I like that their branches all seem to be time travel doors to banks of the 1990s rather than the usual "retail sales outlet with a cash machine in the corner".

There was a migration last weekend from the Lloyds infrastructure onto their new banking platform, which is a customised version of the one used by its Spanish parent company Sabadell.

I'm guessing IBM will have been brought in to provide some reinforcement to the exhausted support teams, no doubt they've got the breadth and depth of resources to resolve this quicker than the in-house team.

Having been in the depths of a similar crisis a number of years ago, I can only sympathise with the poor buggers who are trying to fix it.

Makes RBS look half competent.

At least they realised that the IT work associated with the demerger to create the new Williams & Glyns bank was just too difficult at the moment and pulled the plug on it.

Nasty complicated systems gaffer taped together with all sorts of legacy code spaghetti. *shudders*

but in reality a lot of it is basically like this, still lloyds/halifax/BOS stuff under the hood

All of the backend stuff was was Lloyds based and Lloyds was/are charging them handsomely for the use of those systems with the price going up every year. Hence the new Spanish owners wanted to move the accounts to their own systems.

IBM in theory have some existing expertise since apparently they support Lloyds. Although given the reputation of IBM nowadays after all the cost cutting I am not sure how much they will actually add.
