BBC's foreign editor Jon Williams tweets: Incredible to hear rebel fighter in Tripoli with broad Mancunian accent talking to WyreDavies on #WATO. What better place to train 4 #Libya
From the Beeb's live text coverage. Not the finest choice of words, I think,
That is somewhat over the top - Tripoli seems like a rather nice place.
Tripoli seems like a rather nice place.
Better weather.
big libyan contingent in manc I think
and yeah, unfair comparison - don't get sorts like binners in libya I'm sure
What better place to train 4 #Libya
What an utter oopshole.
What an utter arsehole.
Oh I dunno ..........
Among the many, many places that I've had engineers working is Longsight and Tripoli
Both jobs went very well except I never had anyone get shot in Triploli 🙂
What an utter arsehole.
I agree, Manchester is a shit place to train. Always raining.
BBC's foreign editor
It'd be funny if thats one of the departments moving up to Salford 😆
Do you get the hub caps nicked off your car in Tripoli?
Can you understand what the women are saying too?
Do you spat upon too?
Sorry, my memory is failing me it was Wythenshawe where he go shot, they only scared him in Longsight
You have hub caps on your car?
Yes, are you being racist or simple? Do you class the Manc-accent as unintelligent?
Sorry, I can't understand the last sentence.
I don't live in what will become an Islamic revolution and no one has ever spat on me.
They'll have gone to tripoli for a spot of R&R after the rioting in Salford! I used to live in Salford 6 and the footage of the rioting looked not much different to any other summer evening. Tripoli looked quite sedate in comparison
Our guys were all around putting up line of sight antennas, the local youth thought they were some sort of surveillance devices.
I ran into a load of hassle too on the corner of Moss lane and Chorlton rd
TBH though all the cities were the same 🙂
don't get sorts like binners in libya I'm sure
😆
Oh er I mean how very unkind what a mean and nasty thing to say poor Binners. 😥
But even better, right, Hora (yes Hora, I know, I know...) said this:
Yes, are you being racist or simple?
😆
😆
😆
Qualitage.
I agree, Manchester is a shit place to train. Always raining.
If it's not raining, it's not training.
Donal MacIntyre on Newsnight just now, talking to some yutes in a delightful looking place called Wythenshawe.
TBH it don't look to bad really, certainly not on the surface. Far nicer than some of the estates when I was a kid (mostly now gone to be replaced by lower level housing rather than tower blocks).
Overwhelming sense of a lack of decent education amongst those talking in the piece though. And a sense that they don't feel at all 'valued'.
Why are the yute so undervalued?
Why are the yute so undervalued?
Why should they feel "valued" ? Should we all bow down and show dem sum repec innit.
See, if that's the attitude you're going to take, then how can we actually find solutions?
Why should I value or respect you? Tell me why?
When you see yutes like that, what do you think? What is your view of them?
Instead of being all sneering and superior, why not ask yourself what possible solutions there might be?
So quick to condemn, so loathe to actually think of solutions...
Why should I value or respect you? Tell me why?
I don't think you should, respect has to be earnt. I don't expect anything from you.
Instead of being all sneering and superior
Hello Mr Pot.
So come on, tell me how those yutes could 'earn' respect.
Allthepies, none of the answers....
They could tell me what their ambitions were, their desire to build a better life for themselves and their family. That would be a start - something... Not just riding around on a bike during the day whining.
So how often do you actually go and talk to such people?
How much actual interaction do you personally have with the Yute Dem?
