I'm talking flat caps, baker boy, trilby, homburg etc rather than beenies and baseball caps. A real shop rather than online, need to try on.

Thanks.

A hat shop, a milliners if you will (if they make them for men as well).

There is one in Cambridge if memory serves, in Silver Street.

Today I am proudly sporting the most middle class purchase I have ever made in my life. A lovely UK-made, waxed cotton flat cap from John Lewis. They should be able to sort your headwear needs

A hat shop
STW at it’s finest 😂

Seriously though - virtually anywhere these days, since Peaky Blinders made them fashionable again (despite 99% of people attempting to wear them looking like total roasters 😀)
Even M&S has a fair range

There are a couple of milliners near the Plaza Mayor in Madrid, if that's of any use?

Beasleys in Hull is good, and a fun shop too with the trendy casual shop across the arcade. Have a Panama and a pork pie from there.

The Hat Shop in York city centre was excellent when I needed a topper.

Horsey and country clothing places usually have a decent selection of the styles you listed. What part of the world are you in, you might get better recommendations?

I've had one of these for nearly 10 years:

https://www.outdoorresearch.com/us/pub-cap-243638

It's great and the fold down softshell bits cover your ears on the way home from the pub  if it's windy/cold

if down south, Portobello road market has loads of hat shops, probably not your highest quality milliners but my son wanted a short top hat for a steam punk like look and had about 30 to choose from from various places

Thank you. I'm in Sheffield so this is good info. Might try the Hull shop and visit The Deep at the same time. The Hat Shop in York is a great shout, totally forgot about that, went there years ago. Our John Lewis in Sheffield has now sadly gone so it's Manchester or Leeds for that. But I visit Oxford and London occasionally.

A bit left field but 'sporting outfitters' and gun shops usually sell these type of hats to match your tweed waistcoat, plus fours, Barbour jacket etc.
Tweed and waxed hats seem to be a perennial trend with people who use shotguns and train spaniels.

@jambourgie - JL in Leeds is a bit rubbish. It's not that big and never seems to have anything in stock when I go there. I went on Sunday to get an overcoat and they had about 4 in the shop. It's winter season !!

If you've not got a massive or tiny head, you'll probably be okay buying online. I've got a pumpkin head so have to try hats/caps on

Love that shop! Well, the outside of it anyway.
Never been in, in my puff despite doing most of my time here, but I love how the display always looks like it was done in the early seventies and never changed
They even had/have that crinkly yellow shop window film in the window that makes everything a bit urine-esque
🙂👍

Village Hats online are great. Very helpful too though they've stopped selling my favourite cadet cap so I can't get behind them completely.

Wait for your next trip to London and go to Christy's and Lock & Co.
Fedora, Trilby, Homburg, Pork Pie, Bowler, Topper, Panana, Caps various.
Don't forget a hat box for proper storage.
Reiss do a range of hats but don't know what they stock in store; I have two fedoras made for them by Christy's.

Probably no help (unless you fancy visiting North Portugal*), our local market has a regular stall selling a large range of traditional flat caps all about five euros.

*Two bike parks nearby, Bike Park Ponte de Lima and Pe do Negro.

Was going to say charidee shops but, inspired by this thread, i went in to town earlier expecting a flat cap bargain only to be sorely disappointed. Northern, working class, aging town too. Without wanting to be insensitive you'd think they'd have a ready supply!? So...not charidee shops.

@BillMC Magee my late FIL's favourite suit maker. I think I may have to get me one of those tweed ratting hats.

If sir would like a top hat, wedding rental places often have used ones for sale.

I think the last person to pull off a topper was this fella. I just want something to stop my hair blowing around and keep my head warm without looking like a window cleaner. I'm drawn towards a Fedora or a Newsboy, or both. Not stacked of course. that would look odd. This thread has certainly delivered, plenty to go on so cheers!

unless you went into town in your Delorean I don’t see why you’d expect that… flat caps (all hats mentioned here, really) and solely the preserve of middle-class London hipster ****s these days 😀

A proper northerner wouldn’t dream of giving away a perfectly good flat cap! 🤣

Only good for the bin when they’ve done with them.

I once needed some studs for a dress shirt. They were the only place that had any around here.

Road trip for a hat.

https://ardalanish.com/mill-shop/

My father bought a hat from them and loves it. He loved the fact that the lady who weaves the wool showed him round, that the flock supplying were in the fields outside...
