I seem to remember thinking a few years back that despite all this technology most toys have remained the same - lights flash, sounds play etc.

My daughter now has a book that plays a selection of sounds, and I have to say the quality of reproduction is quite remarkable. So I suppose technology is creeping in - the electronics that play the recordings is probably vastly better than it was when I was a kid a quarter of a century ago.

How are the kids of today going to learn how to make decent machine gun noises if the toys do it for em?

Yep, things have moved on a little ๐Ÿ˜€

Cos the toys break, but there will always be a stick or cricket bat to hand. Or some imagination.

Graham - that bottom one isn't actually a kids' toy is it?

Grandstand made some of the best toys. Remember the convertibles?

Well... it's not specifically sold as a (little) kids' toy.. but it is a toy.. and my kid plays with it...

One thing that hasn't been developed is an accurate way to simulate a motorbike noise on a pushbike.

I still think kids have to rely on playing cards.

Wouldn't be that hard, just use the same logic they use for computer games.

Hello, is that Dragon's Den..?

I grew up around the millennium, the era of pokemon and the PS1.

But because my parents were poor I climbed trees and played with toy cars (the type where it's just a car and you make your own brum brum noises).

And now I ride a bike in the woods whereas my friends play Call of Duty.

Cool story bro.

Now, if only it was possible to do both.
