After spending a week in and around the Poland/Ukraine border helping distribute Humanitarian aid, it was obvious that some things were in desperately short supply, and couldn't be bought anywhere. The thing in most demand is the simple lifesaving device, the tourniquet. Prices for good ones had tripled and staff were driving as far as Krakow to collect them. My aim is to buy them here and send to the person who is in charge of medical stuff at the 'Tesco' in Przemysl.
If you want to get involved, there's a few options.
kilo off of here found these:
https://theppeonlineshop.co.uk/Combat-Application-Tourniquet.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw37iTBhCWARIsACBt1IzfWRQ9hl-kcS_eEVXBm5aAFytfWgUVjd2mv4UkYuABMRuQlpLLLvMaAszyEALw_wcB
He has already bought ten and sent to me, they look very good quality (there's a lot of sub standard ones about). You could also buy them yourself and send over to me to send- or send them direct to Poland yourself.
You can send money via just giving:
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tourniquetgroupbuy?utm_term=xXbAZp3Ak
you could send ones you may have in the shed, or buy ones you know are good.

Dunno if this helps, but all the tourniquets i used to have were branded with drug company logos. Might be worth asking around drug companies or reps to see if they have spares. They were used as promo items but they were real tourniquets.

I’ve emailed the company in the states as well as the UK distributer of the original CAT tourniquets, to see if we can deal direct and get the genuine ones at a good price.

You're welcome, when you see all the amazing people down in Poland, hundreds of people from all over the world, some staying in warehouses, on the floor, all doing amazing work, it makes you realise that there are a lot of good people about.

Over £700 overnight, JUST FROM STW is pretty flipping amazing, thanks everyone, especially Kilo who pushed me to get it done, all size donations welcome obvs, and share if you think it will help.

The tourniquet with drug companies logo will be for taking blood and would not be suitable for this application unfortunately.

Just put a small amount in.  Big respect for doing this.  I have a mini trauma pack with a tourniquet and some blood clotting dressings, airways etc.  You are welcome to have this if you want, my battlefield first aid training is not very current these days and tbh I'd hope to not be dealing with any sucking chest wounds in rural Shropshire! Its a little bit grubby because it's been in the boot of my car for a couple of years but all the important contents are in sterile wrappings.  It's possible some may be past their use by dates, I've had it for a while.  Message me with an address if you think it's of any use and I'll stick it in the post.

That would go straight to the front line!
Saying that, I was thinking that all of us who go into the wilds should have a tourniquet, all he army guys from UK, US and Canada we met keep one in their cars at home.

Nearly at the £1k target!

Well done all, (although bunging a few quid in a charity collection kind of pails into insignificance...) especially you jkomo

Just make sure they are the original CAT. Plenty fakes about and they break or do not stay in place. The windlass is very soft. At that price either old stock or maybe counterfeit. Looks like 2010 if original.

The one in the IFAK above, SOF-T is excellent.

Also the SWAT-T, I have carried these since they came out. Also good for mtb btw. SWAT T

Nice work.

The woman I’m sending them to is also training the new recruits to use tourniquets as well as helping woman and girls who are victims of rape and sexual violence by the invaders. She is incredible TBH. Anyway I sent a vid of me using it on my leg. It’s very sturdy, the windlass is rock solid, and the holding thing seems fine. The are a lot of shit ones about, so I’m really anxious not to buy anything sub par.
I’ll get the ten Kilo bought out ASAP so she can double check, but from the vids I sent her she’s happy.
I also emailed the company who make the ‘real’ ones in the states. If they will sell to my brother in NJ he will send to Przyemsl.

@jkomo I've put a call out to my former colleagues for any spare they may have laying around. I'll give it a fortnight to gather some together and drop you a line on how we get them where they need to go.

Chucked a few bob into the pot. It's humbling to think that some people are driving deep into Ukraine to distribute supplies, and also that tourniquets are in such demand. Make me feel better about STW after reading the post from geordiemick00.

This is brilliant. I have held off donating much to this crisis, other than work related activity, as I wasn't confident that the money would be used appropriately. This is a direct link and you have seen first hand that this is what is needed, very happy to donate.

In less than two days we have £1650 to spend. Just incredible, thanks everyone who have encouraged me to do this, for Kilo who got the ball rolling, and of course everyone who contributed.
Now the hard work starts, Kate is in Poland for two more weeks (she is of course a volunteer), so I need to get them in her hands within this time frame.
We are looking at the original CAT USA made ones, I’m waiting to hear from the manufacturer if they will sell to my brother in the states for a good price, or we get the good knock-offs.
I also need to work out how to ship humanitarian aid so it doesn’t incur brexit fees, and who with. (Anyone here work for DHL or similar?)
Anyway thanks everyone for such a swift response, now I have to deliver…

Okay I have found a place in Poland who can deliver tomorrow.
Now I need to figure out the cheapest way to send funds. Any ideas welcome!!!

xe.com have been around for years and come up as cheap on the comparison sites or transfer from your personal bank account using the IBAN of the receiving bank - fees vary but are generally low and payments should be via SEPA from e.g. Barclays so same day.

Well, things have moved on a pace…
Monies have been transferred, the tourniquets are ordered and should be with our person on the ground today.
Fingers crossed.
I’ll put all the invoices and paperwork up on the JG page. Any left over cash I’ll buy more this end and send with the physical ones I have here.
Thanks everyone for an amazing and quick response to the appeal!!!
I may have to learn how to post photos on here, it’s only been ten years.

@jkomo a lot of my mates have already given kit, this company Baseline Medical is distributing and training Ukrainian medics on it, so if anyone in here does have in date kit they'll take it off your hands.

I'll throw a few quid your way instead. Great job dude.

The plan is to leave some cash to cover bank charges if there are any. Then use whatever is left to buy UK Ones and send with kilos ten and any other stuff by courier.

Might not be relevant any more but I currently live in Ontario, and use Transferwise for moving money and found them to be competitive and good to deal with.

THEY’VE ARRIVED!!!
The picture is with my IT guru who will no doubt post it soon.
They are better than we hoped, and apparently even stronger than the American CAT gen7. These ones have a metal windlass (the windey stick) and are a bit stronger.
So relieved, I was getting a bit stressed moving other peoples money around.
There will be left over cash as people are still kindly donating, so after Just Giving fees, and bank charges I’ll buy either more TQ’s or anything else Kate needs, and post direct.
Anyway, so happy.

Hello, I am writing to you from Bulgaria, I support your cause and I hope all this is over soon. I am interested in everything that happens with the war and I follow all kinds of information sources for credibility. I came across this forum by chance and read that you need turnstiles. [Mod edit] I hope I have been useful to you.

Hi Jimmy, sorry I only just saw your post!
The last of the goods from the STW group buy have been purchased and are now with Fynn in the village, who is driving direct to Lviv, he will hand over to Kostya who will take to the East.
Our final spend after the £1640 on the TQ’s was £40.68 on 1000 167mg water tablets enough for 20-25,000 litres. And £82 on four gas stoves.
These are going out with Kilo’s 10 tourniquets (who got the ball rolling in the first place) and a medi kit sent by blokeuptheroad.
Fynn has now bought another van and a mark one Freelander (what could possibly go wrong) and he and his Mum Karen are driving them out tomorrow, laden with donations from the Debanhams depot in Banbury.

I've talked to the person who can provide them. he told me that he could currently provide up to 500 pieces, and he could find more. the price he told me is 20-25 euros depending on the quantity. the turnstiles were from the reserves of the British army. I hope I've been helpful with whatever I can to cooperate will help you!
