I'm impressed that he isn't standing for any s**t although I can't help but feel that he has a financial interest in the film getting completed.

Anyway.... good job.

Thanks for not linking to The Sun 🙂

To be honest, it's probably as much due to the 'way it's seen' than covid safety, but he's right to be angry as a boss. If production stops because of breeches, it's costly and stupid.

Great rant - if you want a listen, it's very NSFW...

I could wish our politicians had as much concern over dealing with these issues.

He’s going to lose money, as will other people because a few can’t do what’s asked. No different to breaking other H&S restrictions. I guess he’d had enough of asking nicely.

Nah he's a full on ****ing scientology mentalist....that was him asking nicely. Bloke is an entitled ****ed up prick

On the other hand, we don't know how many times this has happened before, or how many times he's asked, and I imagine shutting the movie down would indeed cost many people jobs in an industry that really doesn't have a lot of spare jobs going at the moment.

Edit to add - It's not like wearing masks or keeping distances is new to anyone, or even a particularly big ask.

I don't know him so I can't comment on the above.

However, I'm pretty sure that is being said all over the country at companies doing their best to stay afloat.

He’s lost his Cruise control when it comes to dealing with people breaking restrictions.

He sounded like towards the end of the audio clip, he was calming down and was going to be more reasoned, but that probably wouldn't have got the clicks The Sun was after, so they cropped it.

He is short, all little people get shouty when nobody pays attention to them 😉

Yeah he’s a Scientologist but he’s still asking people to keep with in the regulations. I listened to his rant this am, it was evident he’d asked them all ready. By all accounts his supposed a really nice guy who is very passionate about his career.

Sounds like his Les Grossman character from Tropic Thunder?

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
I've been present at worse work bollockings about teaspoons not being washed before being thrown in the teaspoon jar.

He's probably in the right.

But it doesn't make it any less funny that he comes across as a ranty shortarse.

Fair play to him. I imagine he's secretly quite pleased that the companies he's dealing with get to hear the lengths he's going to in order to keep production going safely. In fact, wouldn't be surprised if this tape came from him, the devious little shit!

Compare and contrast to Boris 'would you mind awfully not going to the pub?' Johnson.

I don’t like him as a person particularly (and shame on all of you having a go cos he’s short, seriously?) but I fully stand by him. I know people in his industry who haven’t worked for 10 months and his film will be employing hundreds if not thousands of people. If the crew can’t follow the rules the entire operation (which will be very much in the spotlight) might get shut down and cost those people their jobs.

Are we absolutely sure this isn't the sequel to Jerry Maguire?!

I seem to remember him being quite shouty in that.

maybe more about him catching it, not being able to film and having to quarantine and with planned international travel in the next few weeks I'm sure he has a lot on his mind. Fairplay I say, either they weren't wearing masks or wearing them under their nose. Imagine being the guy getting shouted at by Tom Cruise 'AND YOU, AND YOU, IF I EVER SEE IT AGAIN, YOU'RE OUT.'

My brother has actually worked with him on one of his Mission Impossible films. My brother was impressed with the way he worked and directed. He had an issue with the stuntmen in a fight scene and basically took over and showed them how he wanted the action to be done. He did seem to take control, but it was done well and my brother said he really did know what he was talking about.

Given he has been making successful films for years I think he has a point when it comes to telling idiots to look after the industry.

That was a proper bollocking.

Made the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket sound like an altar boy.

Well done TC I say. Too many dicks are being complacent about this virus.

I asked the barber for a haircut like Tom Cruise.

He put a cushion on the chair for me.

No - in jest.

But he takes scientology seriously and is 'in your face' about it, so it makes other stuff a bit more 'fair game'.

I doubt very much he cries himself to sleep at night worrying about what an ugly tosser like me thinks of him in any case.....

I was accidentally copied in to an email regarding our covid measures on our current production - seeing what they are spending just on covid measures gives a good indication of what they stand to lose. There are no Tom Cruises on this shoot - its not that kind of budget but the spend just on covid is a telephone number and the potential loses would be multiples of that. I've worked on cinema releases that could have been fully funded just on whats being spent on keeping this job covid secure.

Very much this. Never been much of a fan myself but this rant is what a lot of resonable people who have been taking precautions for 10 months now are feeling everytime they see some selfish **&# walking around with no mask or 'chin mask'.  To say I've been increasingly irritated by stupid people being stupid is an understatement about as large as Mr Cruise's ego and/or bank balance.!

It's hard to not agree with the sentiment, but that kind of ranting has no place in a 21st century work environment.

Actions (firing the offenders) would have been just as powerful, if not more so.

We have just finished our bit on a job that was adjacent to one of the sets of Mission Impossible.
The bugger cost me roughly a full days wages for 3 blokes too, as they had to keep stopping doing what they were doing every time the cameras were rolling on his production, which meant we took 5 days to do 4 days work.

I am genuinely surprised about the low levels of positive cases across the various studios.
Royal PITA that you can't just rock up on site anymore , you have to get tested 2 days before you start, then routinely tested at the end of each week , ready for the following, but as said above, the costs of having to stop production are huge, so you see why the rules are in place.

If he is he’s not very good at it, I genuinely only found out he was a Scientologist from here a few years ago. Still don’t think it makes it fair game just like any religion.

I know which one is have preferred I'd I'd been on the receiving end..

Also, I know tom cruise is a weird scientologist but everything I've heard about him made out he was a decent bloke..

On the receiving end I'd rather be ranted at than fired. I hope it gets the message across to the public as well as the film crew.

People love narcissistic sociopaths.
The more obnoxious and nasty they are, the more they're loved.
Entertainment and politics are two areas where these people thrive.

Personal opinion klaxon: I think that Cruise is a bit of a creepy wee ****er, but I absolutely agree with him calling out people behaving irresponsibly like this.

@Tom-B He may be a Scientology idiot but he’s 100% right on this one. The morons not following the safety rules and risking the production and everyone else’s livelihood are the “entitled **** ups”.

I also know someone that has worked with him . He acted in a film with him. Apparently he's the ultimate professional. Takes the time to engage with everyone around him that's involved. 100% sincere.

The scientology stuff is obviously bonkers, but outside of that he is apparently a very decent person by all accounts, at least from a professional perspective
