A bit dark, but the sky’s a bit bright, you can tell nesting season has started, the local pair of carrion crows are pillaging my silver birch for twigs to build with.

A bit of local industrial archaeology that’s recently been cleared up a fair bit, by the land owners who live in the former brewery behind with the big chimney. The previous owner had plans to clear the leat that the waterwheel sits in, and restore the wheel so it could be turned, but he died before he could do much with it. Getting water from the river flowing along the leat again would be nice, but hugely difficult. The former mill of which these are all that’s left, processed old cotton rags and cloth into pulp, which went to the nearby paper mill where my granddad and great-granddad both worked. They’d have probably enjoyed a pint in the brewery tap on their way home to the nearby village of Ford; this is in Slaughterford.

Eeeeeeeeeeew!
Pulled this out of the cat's ear, fully intact. Didn't think the cat would give me another go but just as the cat started to protest the wee beastie let go. Impressive macro function on my Pixel 9!
Cleaning gubbed up carb on my hedge trimmer. The fuel line and filter were really manky and now replaced.
Bit of a change from a dog with its head out of the side window of a car…

Better shot of the crows plundering my silver birch for nesting materials…

Another shot of Einar of Wardruna playing one of his wierd traditional Norwegian instruments…

No, it isn’t August…

I’m not saying it’s aliens, but…

Oh good, it isn’t!

Kings Steps?
Can't see Sheppy, so all will be good.

Can't see Sheppy, so all will be good.
Can't even make out Reculver in the uploaded version, it's quite clear with my middle aged naked eyes.
A few of these fritillaries have appeared in a wild bit of our garden. Will they spread naturally?
Yes, with luck; if they’ve appeared naturally, then the conditions suit them so they should continue to spread. Back in 2013 a solitary cowslip turned up in my lawn - now they’re everywhere, the only thing that’s spreading faster are the violets, and they’re a bloody nuisance! The cowslips I can live with; same with the primroses, I found one solitary and rather unhappy looking plant hidden under an evergreen shrub, which I evicted to the benefit of the primroses which are spreading, although more slowly than the cowslips.
Snake's head fritillaries are possibly my favourite flower. I have them popping up in random places in my garden including the occasional white ones.

Apple tree in bloom!

A perfect evening for shooting some sticks! 😁

My friend Caron’s Truffle Hound, waiting for me to throw a stick in the river so he can play Poo sticks under the bridge!

Another perfect evening, 40yds today, getting better…

My apple tree, coming into full bloom.

Absolutely perfect morning for chucking some sticks at targets! I’ve caught the sun a bit too, not quite what I’d expect in mid-April…
