Please help me come up with an elegant solution to my cabling problem.

At work, I have a desk where I plonk down my laptop and plug in external keyboard, wireless mouse, external monitor etc. Now there's also a USB audio interface (usb 1.0)

Now Ideally, this interface needs to sit on a worktop seven odd metres away across from my desk as that's where the things that it interfaces with live. But it still needs to be plugged into my laptop for power and data transfer.

Long USB cable is out as maximum length is 3-5m. And you can't daisychain them either apparently so that's out too 👿

What's the best way of dealing with this in the simplest, preferably cheapest way possible? Powered USB hub on the worktop? How do I get to it?

One thing I do have is a ridiculously long network/ethernet cable (and ethernet port on the laptop. Could I somehow make use of this by routing it along the skirting boards etc so it's out the way and then attaching some kind of ethernet-usb adapter (if they even exist, and would that provide power to the usb device as well as data?) or maybe some kind of router with usb out on it?

😐

😕

Anker powered USB hub - keyboard/mouse/audio thingy all permanently attached. A single cable to connect to the laptop when you plonk it down.

EDIT: and a 10m usb cable.

You can extend USB over cat5 as well -

Max length for a USB1.0 lead is 100m. It was originally designed as an alternative to cat5.
