That's pre-gym as well, was 91kg at the end (all water loss I know...)

So, right on track to lose the 6kg in 3 weeks that I set myself... who said it couldn't be done eh? Will be interesting to see what I end up at on the 23rd (the 'official' end of my self set '3 Week Challenge'). Feeling stupidly good, though a little stiff, need to up my stretching as well as exercise me-thinks...

In two weeks, I have been to the gym every day (twice a day on most days), just working on cardio (cycling, jogging, swimming), no weights or anything high intensity, all around 130-140bpm on the HRM for around 1-1.5hrs or so. I've gone from: feeling dead and slow in the water to comfortably pushing out 1km at a cruisy pace (25m pool, no push off the wall) and from struggling to finish 500m jogging at 11km/hr to now doing 1.5km at 11km/hr... amazing how quickly it all comes back!

onwards and upwards, it feels good to be getting fit again! Target weight is now 85kg... what I used to weigh 10 years ago 🙂 Then to start seriously training for triathlon next year 8)

Well done! However, some of that weight loss will be water. Might sound silly, but do you look any thinner? To be fair, you don't want to loose more than 3 lbs a week after the first 2 weeks or so.

To all the doubters.... look what you can achieve in a short space of time if you put your mind to it!

Congratulations Psychle! Are you still compiling a photo log? I imagine that's quite a dramatic change in your body size/shape?

Good work. How much do you think is down to exercise, as opposed to diet change?

Seconded tsy- at the risk of sounding like a cliche- this thread is useless without (moving) pictures!

Yep, a photograph a day (well, actually, 4 photographs - front, leftside, back, rightside...) To be honest, there's not a hugely noticeable difference back/front, but you can definitely see the change from the side... shall wait till next week before the big reveal, brace yourself for a big(ish) hairy lad standing in his underwear!

Diet change has been pretty big as well, lots of salad and fresh fruit, smoked salmon for protein along with omelettes (egg-white ones), hardly any booze (having a glass of wine tonight...), smaller portions at night (if any, as I've been finishing at the gym quite late, due to finishing work at 7pm). It's a combination of both really, prior to this I was probably getting to the gym 1-2 times a week, pathetic really, these past two weeks I've been probably 20 times, more than I've been all year probably! The gym guys must be wondering wtf is going on! 😆

Haha. Baring yourself on the net is all the rage these days 😳

The important thing (especially for your Mrs) will be how you feel!

Keep up the good work! Oh and 'give a sh##' what the gym guys think, more Awesome than Surf-Mat is the guy down my gym who's lost 13 stone since June 2009! Hero in my opinion!

I'll post in the 'Friday Bloke' thread... wife is going to be surprised I think, I reckon it might be one of the first things she asks me, "have you lost weight??" 😆

As a tribute to the Legend of Ron Burgundy be sure to be sat at home doing bicep curls to the count of 1001, 1002, etc, as she walks through the door!

I have lost 4kg in about 6 months.... Weight's not really changed in 4 weeks but my running has improved and my muscles are noticably more developed.

molgrips - how are you getting on with your goals for your race in November then? Reckon you'll crack the time you want?

I dunno. Running is improving, but I don't know if it's improving fast enough. I can run reasonably at the required pace, but only for about 5 mins then I have to stop for 20s and carry on.

It's going to be close.. 🙁

It's worth noting though that everywhere I run is hilly, but the race is dead flat. Fingers crossed this makes enough of a difference 🙂

You've got 5 or 6 weeks though still, right? Sure you'll be fine. Especially if the intervals you're doing are at a pace faster than what you want to run, and you're training on hilly terrain.

molgrips - I'm probably one of the few ladies on here who's had the pleasure of riding with you. I didn't actually see your muscles but you are certainly a powerful rider

So developed, but not visible then 😉

Go psychle. Well done that man.

Molgrips, stop being such a downer, just 'cause you're such a chubber and can't loose the weight.

Yep. Leg muscles are starting to poke out from beneath the flab.

* Note that I am really not fat, just not a whippet as I need to be if I want to win races.

Good work. I'm 10.5 kg down but it has taken me 2 months of low effort. Trick is to keep it off!

Good stuff, even though the original photo request was a bit tongue in cheek, I now think it's a good idea to have a visual record and will be interesting to see.
There appear to be some huge weight losses mentioned, I want to know where all this lard is going???
I have reached a point where I'm not losing weight, I'm just losing fat as I'm doing a lot of riding and some weights...

Keep it up fella. 😆

What pace is that at? And what is your race target?

Sounds like you need to run slower and build endurance, try running slower but for say 8 mins and then 2 mins rest etc. All running training is built on a base of long runs and I'd say you need to be building up to one long run before you start worrying about pace. Longer slower intervals are first step to being able to run for 20,30,40 mins etc.

Sometimes the challenge is to run slower!

'grips, how come you have to stop running? Out of breath, or pain?

That's at the required pace of 8 minutes/mile, to complete my target 5 mile race in under 40 mins. I have to stop and walk because I'm out of breath at that pace. I can run for ages at a slower pace, so it's my cardiovascular system that needs training.. or in the words of coach, I'm 'centrally limited' rather than 'peripherally limited' as on the bike.

It's also interesting that I had less tendon discomfort running faster, presumably because my gait was better in some way.

My training involves intervals and longer runs. But I've already got a good cardiovascular base from all the cycling I do - which I suppose is why I don't feel tired after runs, I just have specific aches.

My coach is on it.

And iDave - hand wringing? Wtf?

Wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. But I recall people saying he shouldn't try, it would be bad for him, impossible, and so on. Thankfully it seems that getting on with it and determination won through.
