After many years of obviously eating all the wrong things, it's become very apparent that I need to lose weight. So i'm looking for some tips.
I'm guessing cutting down on bread and alcohol (although I'm not much of a drinker, a 4 pack of beer can last all weekend) and substituting crisps with nuts or fruit is also good, but other than fad diets or joining weigh****chers a lot of information contradicts each other.
So what works for people (other than riding bikes)
Cheers

5 stone weight loss here since march with not too much strenous exercise.
*gets biscuits...looks at waistline...picks up celery*
Eat less. Seriously. Just halve each portion you would normally have. It will fall off you keep your riding up too. Eat your dinner off a smaller plate, that helps too.
It's like groundhog day on here today
Myfitnesspal app is pretty useful. Eating more low GI stuff works for me - whole grains and unprocessed carbs etc.

Slow your pie arm down, and don't run passed the salad bar.
eat less, do more
Simple energy balance - eat less calories than you use and you will lose weight.

But be sure that the reduced number of calories are the ones you need.
cabbage soup diet.
Although dont eat to much of it.
ditto properbikeco, & stay off the pop!!
But be sure that the reduced number of calories are the ones you need.
That makes about as much sense as my wife after three bottles of wine.

+1
Really folks, it's not that complex.
Fruit/nuts for crisps maybe isn't a great idea from a calorie viewpoint, though there are other health benefits.
Leave your wife...
1st lost so far.
It's working for me - but there are disadvantages, as with any diet plan!

Are you advocating that the 600 cals (or however many calories reduced equates to) should all come from sugar or Maccy Ds or other processed crap? Surely not.
EDITED: That's a quick edit as I expect Glupton to focus on the 600cals rather than the actual point.
If only there was someone on here who did some sort of diet plan.
Er. Oh.
Are you advocating that the 600 cals should all come from sugar or Maccy Ds or other processed crap? Surely not.
What 600 calories are you talking about?
Is it you that formulated the diet plan that everybody raved about, but nobody stuck to long term (like what happens with every other fad diet)?
He's long gone though Cougar, isn't he?
In fact what happened that FLAME-A-GEDDON thread?
Eating low GI foods (essentially what iDave is based on) isn't a fad diet or voodoo science, it's pretty mainstream science based nutrition advice, and for a lot of people it makes eating a sensible amount of calories a lot easier.
There was definitely some weird stuff involved in the iDave diet though.
Buy a turbo trainer, get up nice and early, have a strong coffee and no breakfast and have a half hour plus fat burner every morning.
Stop eating sugar, keep carbs to less than about 100g (50g if you can) per day. Exercise regularly. Ta da!
I put on 10kg when living abroad and have lost about 12kg since coming back by
Eating less
Excersizing more
I went back to wheatabix (no sugar) for breakfast, sensible lunch 300-500 cals usually bought from M&S for convenience, fruit to snack on and then a sensible dinner. My weakness is carbs especially rice and pasta so have cut those down - just had an M&S Jalfreizi no rice. I do "cheat" had quite a few pints yesterday, big fry up this morning but I try and keep an eye on this.
A few other freebies from me:
Jog everywhere rather than walk. Mix in some short intense burst for 10 seconds or so for greater results.
Jog on the spot when waiting in queues i.e. at the co op
If you're watching TV, smash out 2 sets of 20 press ups whilst the adverts are on.
Dont sit at a desk all day, stand instead.
Take cold showers
Theres a few to get you started

Yeh,
You'll probably be the one with the last laugh when you're ripped as ****.
Worth it.
Weetabix does have sugar in it - not a lot mind.

Wholegrain mini-wheats from Sainsbury's are the nearest to sugar free cereal I've found.

By all means get up early and go on the turbo trainer but have a proper breakfast, remember the tale
Breakfast like a king
Lunch like a lord
Dinner like a pauper
diet not exercise
eat less grains
ime.
Less carbs and calories, more exercise. It really is a lifestyle change, if you lose it all hen go back to the way you were before then expect to put it all back on. Try not to obsess over it too much.

typical day's food of a idieter.
4 egg omlette, topped with a tin of tuna
1 homemade scotch egg
1 large portion of slow cooked shin beef, cauli, sprouts, carrots, leeks, peas and roast parsnips.
3lb weight loss this week.
Ton, personally I've cut back on the eggs a bit , to two every other day. Shitting once every 5 days ain't pleasant.
😆

This, buy some breakfast plates.
And exercise more, then your food intake doesn't need to be reduced too far 🙂

Eat your dinner off a smaller plate, with very heavy knives and forks.

Resistance bands attached to the cutlery and the table will make every meal a workout.
what about porridge?Wholegrain mini-wheats from Sainsbury's are the nearest to sugar free cereal I've found.
Another little one I came up with which I thought was qute witty
"By all means, take the car. But make sure you walk"
i.e. if you're walking into town, get saddled up and drag the car behind you.
Resistance bands attached to the cutlery and the table will make every meal a workout.
Yup, absolutely ideal stuff.
Its all about thinking outside the box. Expand your mind, not your waist line
Cut out milk - drink black coffee, peppermint tea etc, orange juice on yer muesli
Cut out bread.
My missis has been struggling to shift a stone that she put on following an accident that has left her unable to do any vigorous exercise. 2 months ago she stopped bread and milk and is now a stone lighter, with practically no other change to diet and no exercise.
Be sensible with your food, but cut out bread and milk.

Yeh, again, good advice. If you're eating a loaf of bread and quaffing 4 pints of milk a day, then cutting this out will definitely have an effect on your weight.
You can get weighted cutlery.

Also, dont cheat by taking big fork fulls.
Cut your food up into small pieces so you have to do maximum reps.
yeah and just chew the food for the flavour, then spit it out.....ffs 🙄
i've used my fitness pal to go from 15st 10 to 14st in 14 weeks, but it just comes down to eating less and moving more, the eating less bit meaning less biscuits, less cake, less crisps and chocolate and if you do have a treat make sure you've done the exercise to compensate for it
ride a bike
