you can never have too many shaving threads can you 😀

prompted by a revisit to my injector razors after a lengthy spell with my DE gillette slim, and finding them waaaay smoother and easier again. for me at least.

this isnt a thread to argue the toss over which way is better, i even get a decent shave from cheap supermarket, plastic trac II's or whatever theyre called, each to their own.

im purely interested to hear if anyone else uses these, how you get on with them, and maybe even find the odd one or two that people may have stuffed away that id buy off them.

these are the 5 i currently have, but i'm always on the lookout for the different types.

[img] [/img]

ive flitted between DE and SE for years now but just lately ive been getting to the point where i couldnt be arsed faffing about with soaps, creams, brushes, pre-shaves etc and just going straight to the electric razor.

saw the injectors lying forlornly in the cupboard the other day and thought ah go on then, ill give it another go. and what an easy, babysoft smooth shave it was. light, easily manoeuvrable under the nose, quicker, (did i say smooooooth?), it was a real pleasure, feels as close as using a straight.

so, back on it. cleaned them up them this morning and decided thats it for me, SE all the way now.

single edged injector razors then. niche even for stw, so do any of you use/have them, or could it be as i fear that the OP becomes [/end of thread] 😀

There's only one SE razor type that counts and that's a straight razor. I have been trying to get my technique down now for a few years but only sporadically. Hard to get right but on the times I've nailed it the closest shave I have managed.

Most of the time though I find it too much faff and end up using my DE 🙂

Oh go on then. I thought last night about revisiting my de shaving novice advice thread having finally got around to trying Arlo soap, but I'll say here, it's excellent. I think it edges Palmolive but both are fabulous for the money. Although I've found other good soaps I can't see me going any further than arko or palm olive.
I'll need some more oil soon but will just get Johnson aloe Vera again, a £1.50 bottle had lasted me 18+ months.
I bought a new yintal adjustable razor to try out, it's not quite as good as the futur but it's pretty good and was only about £12 so will likely become my 'holiday' razor as I'd not be peeved if I lost it.
Se, any advantage or is it just a different system? Since I have 1000 Gillette yellows I'm sticking to those though!

Btw, it reckon soap, oil and blades cost me about a fiver a year now.... Less than a four pack of mach 3

I’ve been using DE for 20 years and love it.

I have a Mercury 34c with feather blades.

My trusty Kent BLK4 and more soaps than you can shake a stick at.

I’m feeling all niche 😁

I've often been tempted by an SE razor, but I've got probably a lifetimes worth of DE Feather blades knocking about!

Daily shave is an iKON Shavecraft 101 with an Exec Shaving Co Claymore handle. Nice and hefty so it does all the work for you. Also got a few Merkur and Gillette DE's.

Not sure that I could justify a new razor, and I get a great shave as is, but I'll probably try at some point.

@sadexpunk - I've still got the DE razor I bought from you 3/4yrs ago. It's not been used much since March ... not sure why 😉

YMMV, but i do find a definite advantage yes. the razors are so light and manoeuvrable, they get into all the nooks and crannies, especially under your nose. depending on the razor, too, theyre really smooth. i like DE, but love the shaves i get with these.

Since I have 1000 Gillette yellows I’m sticking to those though!

definitely. i dont like waste either, so if id got a load of blades id probably still stick with DE too til theyd gone, but ive only got half a pack of feathers now, so have ordered a load of SE blades instead.

dont really keep tabs on who ive sold stuff too, what did you buy off me? and im pleased youve still had good use from it 🙂

nobody else use these injectors? i feel so uber-niche 😀

A Gilette superspeed with a flared end to the handle.

😎

It'll get a little run later after I've trimmed my beard

Have been through a raft of DE razors, though out of preference I use a 1973 Type-L Schick injector pretty much exclusively now. It just shaves so nicely, without faff.

Merkur 34c and a selection of DE blades to see what you get on with best.

Or find an old injector on eBay, get some blades, and dont look back!

As above a 34c, Gillette blades, a brush, soap , a small bowl and off you go

I use shaving shack for my bits but there are lots of other sites

The best bit is you will save an absolute fortune

I have had my 34c and Kent blk4 for 15 years, add to that some soap and blades I have enough in my back pocket to spew on mtb kit 😉

ah yes i remember that one, a nice razor. pleased you still enjoy it.

the L's are really smooth arent they. i find you can chuck them around your face like a mach3 type razor with no danger of cuts. which model is it out of interest?

should just point out that theyre not mutually exclusive. if youre just wanting to move away from disposables, you dont have to go the whole hog and buy the brushes, bowls, soaps, creams etc. its still possible to just swap your disposables for a dedicated DE/SE and still use the canned goo for ease/swiftness.
and likewise, if you like the disposables/mach3's but just want to take your time and have a nicer 'experience', then you could still swap the cans for the soap/brush/bowl. its all good.

Astra sp are a good first blade to try. Sharp but not too scratchy for many.

It's an L-1. Good enough for James bond, good enough for me! 🙂

I've been using a cut-throat/SE razor for the past few years now...

You still use the DE razors, but just snap them in half!

I've a Cambridge Cut Throat... The key is having a fresh blade every few shaves, as anything other than (cough) razor sharp just snags.
As I found out today. Hmmm...

This prompted me to splash an almighty £11 for this Merkur Futur clone on Amazon:

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07887RBPS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_2NA5FbSJ5PE7M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Incredible value, frankly I’m amazed!
Decent leather case, fully adjustable blade, good weight, solid build. Shaved as good as my 34c.
Maybe not ideal as an intro to DE due to its heft, but jeez, £11 !!

Oh I don't know, the real thing is even weightier I understand (different alloy), and I started with it fine. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of grip which is why I tried out the yintal,. But I prefer the futur.

As a starter the q-shave clones are probably great value.

Became a DE razor convert as of this morning, courtesy of my oldest daughter and her lovely gift of a Gillete razor and blades.
The idea of launching used disposables after a single use ( it can take up to 4 razors to shave my face and head) has bugged me for a while. The shave with this razor is way more comfortable, but not quite as close as with, say , one of those multiblade thingies ( I had no usual brand).
I usually just lob the end bits of a soap bar into the dish and shave with that. Any recommendations for blades, etc for a really close shave? The blades I have are Russian-made and quite well finished.

johnny, try some arko or palmolive shavestick for soap, its really cheap and very good. and if you pm me your address I'll send you a few blades. I thought I'd given away the last of the blades I had been trying out but I just fond another half dozen different types, and with more than a lifetime of gillette sharp edge (yellow) I'll sling a tuck of those in too.

Russian blades can be decent...I think there's a vostok in the half dozen.

An arko stick is cheap and as we say in the north “Bob on”

A shower first to warm the skin and loosen up is always a good idea, while in the shower pop the razor in the bowel with hot water.

DE shaving is the fixie of the bike world

cut-throats like wot @DrP ^^^ uses are the fixies, DE/SE are just singlespeeds.

When I clean shaved I bought one since they irritated my face less than the multi blades. Also once you buy the kit, it works out cheaper.

pop the razor in the bowel with hot water.

Probably best to skip this step...
