Keeping Vegas lit up using the heat of the sun to melt salt. The molten salt is stored and then used to generate electricity via steam turbines at night. You don’t want to be standing in front of the collector at midday.

Meh, you stole my boatlift. Anderton is about 2 miles from my house, I took a ride by it on Sunday evening. Some alternative views.

My immediate thought was, that's a massive cylinder, and look at the size of the valves! (or those are incredibly tiny blokes).

For I moment I thought they were standing inside a massive cylinder head

Its not well documented in photos on the web (which makes me wonder if I'm the only one who thinks this) but the Pilkington's factory complex in St Helens has got some fantastic lines and forms going on

The picture doesn't do it justice but it throws some great shapes on the skyline

I think I need to chat someone up for an artist in residency gig

That colliery is so awesome, just looked it up. sounds like it's gonna fall into it's own mineshaft or something. Whenever i've driven passed it i always wondered why it hadnt been regenerated sooner!

Well, seeing as it was designed by my Great great grandfather, I'd say that I have a pretty good claim to it too.

Keeping it out of the family, I will go for the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam

This is the Crossness pumping station in London, stunning Victorian industry. Was lucky enough to have a guided visit with Thames Water, it is trully stunning and was just a sewage pumping station

Just thought of a Mancunian masterpiece. The largest brick build structure in the UK, and one of the largest IN THE WORLD. Was the largest of it's type when build. I give you the Stockport Viaduct. [img] [/img]

Always know I'm nearly home when I see this from the M1. Tallest building in the UK (yes it is, damn it, Londoners you can shove that pathetic little Shard up yer Tube). 😉

Oh and it's called Emley Moor Mast, not **** "Arqiva Tower", Jesus H Christ I ask you...

Yeah, it's amazing how many people of a certain generation round our way were watching telly when that happened... 🙂

I can't find a picture that really does it justice but the Blackwater Reservoir Dam above Kinlochleven is pretty impressive. Longest dam in Scotland apparently. Riding up to it feels like approaching the Black Gate of Mordor or something.

An obvious one - A popular venue for the bikes and a poster child for the beautiful stonework that the old water corporations were for whatever reason compelled to adopt.

[img] [/img]

I'll try a bit harder now and come up with something more esoteric.
