...do they get warm/hot underneath?

I'm renovating the kitchen with new base cabinets and want to put drawers underneath an induction hob, any problems associated with this?

Yeah they do a bit but mine (Siemens) has fans in it out the back, we have herbs and stuff and utensils under it no bother

Yes but not very. The manufacturer will have a spec for ventilation and distances aroung the hob. I just followed the recomendations plus a bit - no problems. Great way to cook.

In the handbook for ours (also a Siemens) it suggests a shallow drawer below might get to 60 Celsius. Having said that, we put table mats there and they are never even warm to the touch.

Neff here - pair of ovens under ours (so worse than a simple drawer) and no issues at all so I'm sure you'll be fine.
Specs will say what the gap should be.

Our Siemens Flex induction hob says min 65mm from the top of the worktop surface down to the highest part of the drawer sides (or drawer top cover) for a drawer below . That has 6 induction coils so from that I would think a standard hob would generate less heat.

edit. for an oven it says 5mm min from lowest point of hob to top of Oven

Nothing really to add to the above, we have a cutlery drawer under ours and I've never even noticed that anything in there was warmer than ambient.

Miele here. It gets warm, but not hot and the fan noise is more noticeable than the heat (although you can only hear that when you open the drawer).

We have a shallow cutlery drawer and never a problem.

Where's everyone's ovens if not below the hob, fancy kitchens with chest height ovens elsewhere or a drawer then an oven (would seem a squeeze)? Just starting to plan my own kitchen refurb and not really thought about having the oven anywhere but under the hob...

Our neff gets warm up underneath. We have a cutlery draw there. I've notice warm contents but never hot. The manual for ours recommends ventilation holes at the back of the cabinet to allow air to be drawn in. Not got around to drilling those yet.

As for oven location. Wall opposite at chest height in a a bank of floor to ceiling cabinets. Miele slide and hide door 👍.

Samsung here, as above there's a gap at the front under the worktop of 10mm for the hob internal fan vent. The unit gets warm but never hot.

As others have said, cutlery drawer underneath a 5 ring NEFF induction hob gets a bit warmer when cooking up a storm!

As for the oven chest height in a floor to ceiling cabinet.
Under the hob it's cutlery drawer, utensil/pot drawer then another pot drawer!

i know most of the ovens and hobs are made by the same company but the NEFF oven is pretty good.
It has a load of different cook settings like dough proving, slow cooking, pizza to my favourite circo roast!

Thanks for the replies, I'll get a hob and see how it goes when I'm fitting the cupboards.

One more thing, roughly how deep are they? I'm thinking of getting solid laminate worktops and they're thinner than the normal ones.

No problems with our Bora, but it is a tad deeper than most.

Pic a brand/model then go look at the installation instructions. That will give you the depth (and depth requirements). Ours does not protrude from the underside of the worktop.

Check the specs of the hob and how much they can draw or you might be disappointed when you come to cook a steak.

I had to have a half width hob as regs say 30cm from an upright and under counter fridge meant I couldn’t move across and straddle 2 units.
Ended up paying a small fortune for a half width one that senses the ampage of the connection and adjusts its output accordingly so I can have the whole zone at 9 and sear a steak. A 13amp connection isn’t going to give you the oomph if you like to cook.

installation instructions appear to be saying worktop thickness min20mm max50mm
ventilation min20mm gap up the back of the units min20mm gap under the hob min2mm gap out the front, so clearly only needs a bit of a gap at the top of the drawer for ventilation which you'll easily be able to adjust for.
