A Christmas present to me from me.

It's like new, I love me a bit of retro 80s vibe. My search pays off.

There's some crackpots on Ebay asking ,a couple of hundred quid for them, I did not pay that.

I think I still have a threadbare 1970s version hidden away somewhere.

I had one for school In the very early 80s, it was allegedly windproof. Well at least more than the standard one. I remember it being warm but also strangely like wearing a wetsuit, sort of stiff and flexible at the same time

They were still really warm when they got wet, pretty neat. Great for under a cag for watersports

No idea what I'm looking at other than it being a jacket...it looks like it'll be reasonably weatherproof and because of that, I'm drawn to it. However the name is meaningless to me.

In the early 80s just about everyone in our Venture Scout unit had a Javelin pile jacket like that or the North Cape version.

Giving me unwelcome rowing club flashbacks. Smelly Hansens with chevron inserts do likewise.

I'm sitting here wearing a pair exactly like that, looking good...

However the name is meaningless to me.

What were you doing in the early 80s - if it was anything to do with 'outdoor pursuits' and not in the military it's more than likely you were wearing a Javelin jacket or were doing the outdoorsy thing with someone wearing one. The were ubiquitous.

If the owner of a Javelin jacket got near water, it's more than likely they put a Typhoon long john wetsuit on....

And walking up a hill required red socks. I have no idea why, it just did.

Early 80s I'd just started primary school...mid to late 80s I was outdoors, but my 'group' was so small none of the 5 of us anything fancy like that. Being the social animals that we were we never mixed with any other groups...

It still looks very appealing to me though...

No idea?, an early fleece type jacket?

As a kid who grew up in the 80’s and spending most of my life in the wilds of Argyll nr Castle Sween & Dalavich  I’ve never heard of javelin clothing but that’s nae surprise, we had two types of clothing - school and home.

As a kid who grew up in the 80's on a council estate in Leicester, 'outdoors' usually involved bmx's and ramps made out of wood and bricks or running away from someone you'd upset fro kicking a football against their wall...

Never heard of Javelin (and that top deffo looks 'of it's time'!), it was more Troop, British Knights and Travel Fox with one trouser leg tucked into your sock and a bum bag slung diagonally across your body where I'm from.....🤘

I did go to an outdoor pursuits centre on red hill circle, and learnt to ski on a dry slope built on scoffolding!

As a kid growing up in Keswick in the 80's I definitely remember Javelin. I had a waterproof with the fleece lining. It was a revelation having a jacket that was warm as soon as you put it on, before that everything had cold polyester lining.

The outdoor shop at the bottom of Lake Road where Jim Barber worked was the place to get your Javelin jackets, I can't recall the shop name now but it is long gone.

I had a version made by Daleswear in Ingleton. The pile predated the more 'stylish' (but arguably less warm) fleeces that came to dominate the market. The outer face was laminated to improve the looks and allegedly give a bit of wind proofing.

I needed a white linen suit for fancy dress. Vinted delivered a designed label baggy white lined suit for the perfect look.

I had one and pretty much lived in it at uni, our house was so cold.  It was the really severe winter mid 80s, landlord let us live rent free as there'd been a burst pipe.  I used to write in fingerless gloves

Sailed in a Javelin jacket for most of the 70's.
I even had some red Javelin sallopets made from the same fabric (and white Javelin sailing boots in the early 80's 😬)

Truly horrific looking back on it!

Early 80's outdoors? I would generally be seen jumping in puddles in a romper suit, my little red wellies and a hat that my gran knitted. I knew what was cool.

Essential kit for the sailing fraternity back in the day (70's). If you could afford one 🙁

Funnily enough I saw a woman wearing a Javelin fleece jacket the other day - very retro trendy. I was 15 in 1980 and they were  considered essential outdoor wear at the time - everyone had one except me, I had a bright orange Lowe Alpine Systems fleece instead.

It was all about the Campri ski jacket round our way.  Do remember those Javlin tops though, but reserved for the Scout leaders / keenest Venture’s (I’d found other hobbies by the end of Scouts so never went that far).

Never heard of them!

Kappa or Ellesse for the win in the early 1980.

Or an NCB Donkey Jacket if you could get hold of one!  😀

Many of my mates went for the Javelin jacket when we were finishing A levels. I was awkward and prefered the Helly Hansen. Much softer and wearable next to the skin. Plus the Javelin had the taint of Bonington and he wasn't cool in 1980. I still wear soft pile. Still got one old HH and use anything else similar. Mountain Warehouse do such a thing and the ex German/Dutch army stuff is identical to HH. Best next to the skin under a wind proof . Like Buffalo but done better as the pile is softer. My HH salopette is still in use as it keeps the lower back warm.

I just bought a new Patagonia Retro fleece last week - the vest option, God help me. Goes well with my tracksters and Crocs.

I have several Patagonia retro pile things. Best is a paddling jumper bought in 91. However they do miss the point a bit by putting the pile on the outside.

The guy that taught me sailing had one of those Javelin jackets. He turned out to be a bad 'un - know what I mean?

A pair?  I have half a dozen pairs. Jogging, hillwalking, cycling. The business. But then my bikes are still all 9 speed as well.

Still got mine from Ventures. Still fits, still gets used time to time.

I love all the rero stuff on Vinted at prices that are much more sensible than ebay and Etsy.

I just bought a lovely Kappa lambswool jumper off Vinted. From the colours of the label (pink and purple) I’m reckoning early 90’s.

Retrotastic! I bloody love Vinted! 😃

What footwear to complete the 1980s PE teacher look?

Dunlop Green Flash, surely?

Was at a gig on Friday night & a bunch of lads in the bogs were discussing what they'd bought on Vinted so you're all obviously down with the kids 🤣
