I'm with BWD, and I've said so before. This thread has run it's course IMO, I wish it would die a death, if I wanted FHM, I'd buy a copy...

"If you don't like it don't post then"

Bollocks to this sentiment. If I don't like it I'll bloody well let you know and clog your thread up with drivel...because I'm too grown up to whinge to the mods!

Why all the soft porn dudes? Is this why there aren't many women on STW?

it's not supposed to be soft porn but athletic men& women, but some choose to ignore the format

I mostly just get jealous cos all the ladies are prettier than me and better at sports.

[shameless] Clare you're very pretty when not frowning :o) [/shameless]

but don't dare speak up because they are out numbered.

huh, it never stops me :o) If you find anything demeaning please speak out!

Cherie, I agree with you that some females dare not speak up as they are out numbered which is a pity as IMO its not a serious subject this A&A lark and is open for all to comment and express opinions in a lighthearted way.....the same may not be true for other threads mind. IME females can give as good as they get and dont hold back in doing so......but I suppose thats just IME.

Nickc - FHM has got too many words to read, I just get the calendars.

BWD, it's a predominantly male activity......although I wish it wasn't. Was at Llandegla at the weekend for a couple of hours - I thought it was a male only day! IMO the input from females on STW is proportionate to female riders out there. There's normally encouragement on STW for the ladies to get involved. Females not treated badly IMO on this site as you implied, quite a bit of lighthearted banter/flirting when they do.

Everyone has different morals and I understand where you're coming from but dont agree in the slightest. If it was morally wrong and treated women unfairly then I'm pretty sure they (females) wouldn't get involved at all?

Are no females going to get involved in this one??

There are plenty of female mountain bikers out there, really there are, open your eyes some time. There are very few female mountain bikers actively posting on STW. And just because one or two of the ones on here are prepared to collaborate with your shallow rationalisation, doesn't prove anything beyond there being a lot of pressure on people to fit in. You could argue pretty reasonably that the sort of women who are robust enough to post here regularly despite - yes, despite - the sexist drivel, are most likely to become complicit in this sort of thread. It's self fulfilling and doesn't really prove much at all. Sorry.

I don't have a problem with you disagreeing with me, that's life and the fact that I'm right and you're wrong is neither here nor there. But why the juvenile name-calling?

And thanks for proving my point about women posting stuff to fit in to the laddish culture here: 'Hats off to Mrs Flash' indeed. Did you mean 'hats'?

Here I am! 😀

I can't see owt wrong with expressing appreciation for the aesthetic appeal of healthy human beings. This thread is not sexist in itself, as it's open to all. Some of the comments are out of order, but the concept itself is fine. This may be open to abuse by some immature individuals, but it's the same with religion; mainly decent folk, with a few nut-jobs. You can't condemn something based on the actions of a few individuals.

As someone who tries to stay fit and healthy, I appreciate the effort others put into doing the same. is not what this thread is all about?

It's only natural to admire the physical human form. To try and deny that is to repress instinct.

CFH has stipulated some clear and reasonable 'rules'. And has been supported by the mods. There will always be some who object, but that's life. I don't like the attitudes of certain folk on here, on a range of issues/topics, but I accept that some others will think differently to myself. That they are wrong, is not my fault.

I'll be going swimming later. I, and others, will be wearing suitable skimpy and revealing clothing, as is required for such an activity. I will be looking, and I will be looked at. It's in a context and environment where people have chosen to put themselves in, and will surely feel quite comfortable. It's perfectly healthy.

As for the subjects of the pics; athletes like Victoria Pendleton have exploited their physical sexuality, to promote themselves. They have chosen to display themselves as sexual objects, otherwise why pose for FHM/whoever? I'm sure VP woon't like some weirdo stalking her, but I doubt she loses much sleep over the idea of some bloke/woman knocking one out over pics of her in her scanties.

Long Live the A+A!

(That Leryn Franco does have an exceptionally nice bottom!)

One of my faves, because she is an exceptionally talented and brilliant athlete, and happens to be (in my onion) gorgeous as well:

This is just going round in circles. Like I said, I have my opinion and you can disagree with it, that's fine. But wind your necks in and save the personal abuse. Or perhaps I should say, stick to self abuse, cos behind all the bluster, that's what this is all about and you know it....

Hasta.

BWD.....yes, plenty of female riders out there BUT compared to the number of male riders.....

Believe me, my eyes are always open, its a joy to see female riders, a joy to see any female anywhere, they are amazing regardless of shape, size or colour....and this is coming from someone who works in a predominantly female workplace, has two teenage daughters who have lots of female friends round, a full blooded/bodied wife, a female cat and a bitch for good measures! I expect the koi carp maight be female too as they are beautiful. I should be sick of females - far far from it.

This country is too uptight by far - I've recently come back from beach hol where women of all shapes and sizes, of all ages and of all ranges of attractiveness just lounge around all day scantily clad on the beach not caring what they look like (well certainly not showing they care).....its this show of femininity in other countries that make me realise that alot of peoples opinions and views in the good old UK are still in the Victorian days ie - dont show yourself if you're not pretty. B*llocks to that, all women are mighty fine and should be on a level par with males.

Is it time to go home yet?!

No, don't be nasty to BWD. He's expressing his onion, and it's valid within the context of this discussion. I personally think he's got the wrong end of the stick, as far as the ethos of A+A, but let him have his say. It's important to listen to all sides of an argument.

A+A can get a bit 'schoolboyish' at times, and it would be good if more women were involved, and it could become an interesting place for discussion of body-awareness/fascism and stuff like that.

There's nowt wrong with looking, it's the way you look, that matters...

I will never ever say anything which may be deemed even the slightest bit offensive to anyone

you can only know your own intent, not what other might deem (thinking otherwise is known as autism)

Or perhaps I should say, stick to self abuse, cos behind all the bluster, that's what this is all about and you know it....

I think one can appreciate an aesthetic form for the pleasure of looking without resorting to masturbation

It's natural for men & women to look at each other and it only becomes problematical when the people involved are treated as mere objects of gratification

I’m more then a little perturbed by the idea of male contributors arguing on the behalf of female contributors, on the grounds that they are too timid or reluctant to participate in a robust debate. This, I feel, is equally if not a more deeming attitude to the supposed objectification of the female form. It smacks of a “you sit there dear, I’ll sort this out for you” kind of thinking.
I’m sure that the female members of STW are more then able to defend there gender should they feel the need
Also of concerns are such attitudes arise from a social and cultural standpoint that seeks to both feminising and emasculating men. Rather the reaching gender equality society is disavowing masculinity in all its form and cultivating a homogenous female oriented society aided and abetted by large sections of the media, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries for commercial gain.
Men are genetically programmed to look at and appreciate and be fascinated by the female form.

He's entitled to express it whether you like it or not. And why bother expressing his opinion about the A&A somewhere else. Dissent is great...don't try and stifle it.

mrsflash - thanks! After seeing TH half in the buff I shall be keeping my shirt on whilst mowing the lawn this weekend! Even though I am happily hetro I can appreciate and admire the honed perfection of male athletes (perhaps I spent too long in Greece recently!!), the only thing I would complain vociferously about is someone posting my pasty and flabby pic next to them to reveal my inadequacies.

Rudey, what does expressing your onion mean? Is it rude?

It's like an opinion, but multi-layered.

It is not rude, but it is a Rudeism.

Druidh is an onion.

you say that as if it were a bad thing. I feel if men were less inclined to go throwing their weight around and trampling over the sensitivities (or shredded corpses) of others we might all have a happier time of it! However I think you are delusional about this.

He's entitled to express it whether you like it or not. And why bother expressing his opinion about the A&A somewhere else.

Why do so many threads descend into "rights" and "entitlements"? It's my "entitlement" to ask (politely might I add) that at least one post on STW is "a bit of fun" without having to trawl through a load of PC drivel. Put that on another thread that I can avoid on this nice sunny Friday.

...or is this just a troll that is luring me steadily under the bridge?

Trust me SFB this is not delusional thinking (a fixed unshakable belief) but an insidious reality, I fully agree that some of the extremes of masculinity need curbing and controlling, and that this should be done through social and cultural structures, and that gender equality is the aspiration. However, scrutiny of the position of male figures in particular in advertising, but media in general (you need go no further then Loose Women) and the raise in traditionally female pathologies such as body dismorphy and eating disorders, to see this playing out
