Elephant Bike (ex-Royal Mail postie bike) — £200 — Cambridgeshire

Bought this a few years ago because I liked the story more than I liked the idea of actually riding it, which in retrospect should have been a red flag. Three rides in as many years. It's been sat looking at me disapprovingly ever since. Time someone else disappointed it instead.

For anyone who hasn't come across these: ex-Royal Mail Pashley Pronto bikes, refurbished by a charity (Krizevac Project) and sold on, with a bike sent to Malawi for every one sold here. Bike #4,314 of 5,000 — still has the original numbered tag in the basket if you're into that sort of provenance.

Not a mountain bike. Not remotely a mountain bike. It is a 23kg steel step-through with a wicker basket on the front. What it is: genuinely bombproof, Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub gears and drum brakes so nothing to adjust or seize, full mudguards, huge 20kg-rated front basket and matching 20kg rear rack (should take a child seat too), heavy duty centre stand that doesn't topple over when loaded. Also too heavy to nick, which given some of the theft threads on here lately might be the actual USP.

Large frame, 22" seat tube, quick release post so reasonably adjustable. Fully serviced, unmarked, no rust, nothing to sort out — just needs someone who'll actually use it, unlike me.

£200 ono. Cambridgeshire, happy to meet at the station if that's easier than trekking out to me. Cash or bank transfer, collection only — it's not going in a bike box.
