I read this and for some reason the room became quite dusty. Lovely story about such kind and generous people.

It’s on the STW Positivity Thread, but a story that can be shared many times without losing it’s life affirming power.

Yeah, I almost started a thread on this yesterday when I read it.

Some people have far more capacity for sacrifice than I do, and I admire them for it.

Sent this to my family yesterday. Beautiful story, what thoroughly wonderful examples of human beings.

Re capacity for sacrifice, I interviewed someone and asked them why they wanted to only work part-time. The answer was that they and their partner had care responsibilities, voluntarily looking after a former school classmate for the last 15-20 years. In a later conversation they thought the question and answer had doomed their prospects, whereas for me it was the clincher.

Rob Parsons is an absolute diamond.

Over the years, Her Indoors and I have run both the Marriage Course and the Parenting Course for our local church.

The Marriage Course runs over 7 weeks. Couples come along, have a nice romantic meal then watch a video along with a work book and discuss (privately) the issues raised by that week's topic. It's a great way of maintaining your marriage. People come who've been married for 3 years or 30 years. Some couples come multiple times over the years.

The Parenting Course - or courses as there's one for younger kids and one for teenagers - is similar. Meet up, watch a weekly video over a cuppa with a pudding then discuss. It's more interactive as you discuss things as a group and people can bring up their own issues.

Rob Parsons features heavily in both courses. He's interviewed at length for the videos. He's warm, humble, funny, self deprecating and full of wisdom.

That's the ethos of both courses. We're not telling people how to do stuff and saying we're better at it than them. We're saying this stuff is difficult and we screw it up as much as you do and we're all in the shit together.

Highly recommended for anyone whether you're Christian or not. It's aimed at everyone. And it's free. Plus you'll see a lot more of Rob Parsons.
