anymore for anymore?

everyone and their normal riding buddies are welcome 🙂

bring lots of water, and get there early/read the parking advice in the opening post as it'll be busy in the look-out carpark on what has the potential to be a stunning day if the forecast is to be believed!

Ok, I've got a permit, refitted my creaking bottom bracket, only for it to now creak even more and taken the mudguards off (because even the met office can't screw up a 24hr forecast) I'm nursing the end of a cold and a hangover, both of which I hope wil be gone by tomorrow.

What else do I need to know, remember to do, bring?

Just realised my permit is in the shed and my bikes already in the car, and I'm not going home again, arse!

Fast group had better be ninja stealthy.

I'm in. Putting myself down for fast group but if I turn up and there's a bunch of you there in lycra on carbon race hardtails warming up on turbo trainers then I'm going slow group!

Well I'll be in lycra, on a 100mm hardtail, however it consists of equal parts steel, mud and singlespeed and I don't think it's been washed since the last Swinely Party!

[edit] it must have been washed as my forks blew up last time and have been replaced by some even older ones.

Just stocked up on chocolate coated hazlenuts for mid-ride snacking, I'm a bit worried they might melt though. They might just have to be for pre-ride sharing instead!

right ladies and gentlemen,

i'm not going to be back online again properly until after the ride, i might get a quick opportunity to check the thread tomorrow morning but possibly not....

if you've got any questions, check the opening post in this thread, it answers everything apart from what thisisnotaspoon should buy his lady for their anniversary!

looking forward to meeting/seeing everyone tomorrow 🙂

we'll set off on the bikes at 12, i wont have any way of knowing who hasnt turned up and will have to assume if you're not with us just through the 'go-ape' gates on the right before 12 then you're not coming... so give yourself ample time to find the place and park!

xxx

I think he means turn right once you've gone past the Go Ape bit (which is, as you say, on the left).

I think I might join you all since the weather's nice and my bike is clean for the first time in a month! It'll be fun to meet some new people and maybe discover some new trails.

(snuck online whilst waiting for a friend to make the tea)

yeah go ape gate is on the left of the carpark, if you go through the gate then duck under the trees on the right of the gate that's where we'll meet as we're all in one place and out of the way of cars/families 🙂

I'm still too lazy to cut and paste. 😀

(Saving my energy for tomorrow, innit?)

Can't we meet right in front of the gate, right in the middle of the path in the way of everyone, so's we annoy all the other people trying to use the centre?

Oh go on pleeeeease???

Why have I just noticed this 🙁 I've moved a little bit further south and would love to travel back up as I've pretty much recovered from my shoulder surgery now, but alas there's rugby on and I'm having a BBQ.

Any chance of doing it again in a few weeks time?

😆

REMEMBER:
lots of fluids, and worth bringing some food type stuff as we'll be riding over the hottest part of the day and most people's normal lunchtime!

i will bring some white stickers and a pen, but i will not be insisting people wear name badges.... what i'd really appreciate is if people could write down a contact number that we can call if you get beated up by elfin on the trails and stick it inside your helmet. that way we dont have to wipe your iPhones by trying to unlock it too many times.

sound fair? 🙂

that's a fair old sprint to meet us by 12 dude! if this laziness continues we'll have to set off without you 😛

(i dont want people waiting around too long before starting riding, people get impatient when they've been in a carpark for an hour innit)

Thanks Phil for organizing and Andy for leading the slow group much fun.

Phil,

Been there, seen it, done it and got the very wet t-shirt to prove it.

It was excellent....well I thought so from the front!

Seriously, thanks to all the fast(er) group for just doing it in the new UK record October temperature!

Sunny, hot, no wind, no mud or even the odd puddle.

What a day!

Looking forward to the next one.

PaulD

I concur, was great to meet you all and discover some great new sections.
Sorry about the squeaking cranks, and puncture, and another puncture, and the hot flush (full length trousers, seriously?), oh, and coming of in the Devil's Bowl bit or whatever it was called.

Thanks to Andy for plotting such a great route and to Phil for organising, hope we can do it all again sooner rather than later!

Yes, many thanks Phil for organising the ride and for Paul for the guiding - some new trails to me - if I can drag myself out of bed tomorrow I am going to do the route again early.

What a great route and pace - I have a gpx of the fast route apart from the end where us stragglers got separated and then wandered into the swamp.

It was good to put faces to some of the 'masters' of the stw forum 🙂

What a great afternoon in the sun! I did see some air under some of those tyres, and especially enjoyed the"wheeeeeeee" sound effects coming from behind me on a swoopy bit of trail.

Oh, and much kudos for Phil for organising.

I'd love to catch up with the Alton crew to checkbout your local woods...

I could be persuaded to organise a Winchester ride at some point, if any one is interested?

sweaty git.

I set off with a 750mml and 500ml bottle (drank a couple of pints of water before setting off as well), ran out about an hour in, got back to the car, drank 2 750ml bottles and a can of pepsi, Bullheart bought a round of cokes, and I've still not pissed anything less than brown!

And thanks to 'spoon for providing company when my 'catch up with the fast group' plan went a little, er, awry...

Haha, we were the fst blokes on singlespeeds whp are only fast when no ones looking group. Cheers for the coke, I'll buy a mataphorical one back on your justgiving page.

What a ride . Oh my God . Straight out of the blocks and up to a good fast rolling speed . Usual run out of the cp and out into the miles of super fast singletrack .
Never ridden Swinley when it has been so hot and so dry . Super quick with a light dusting of pine needles to keep you focussed . PaulD was taking no prisoners and I was running at pretty much flat out through alot of the singletrack . Even burped on the stickler which left the back end feeling very wooly .
Big up to Philly for organising , and PaulD for dragging us round in a blur of roots , twists and turns and drops . This is why I ride a mountain bike .

Hey sounds like a great ride, I'm jealous, do any get organised down south, I mean further south and east a bit preferably.

Er one question, why do peeps ride with only one speed (I guess that's what single sped means) are they poor people, I could probably find some old gear stuff, should we form a charity?

Gears for poor single speed riders that can't ride good.

Aidan speaketh truth. It Is Written.

Who was the tall guy who got up that vicious climb?

The man's a machine. Proper power. Most folk with gears couldn't make it to the top! 😯

That was the fastest I've ever ridden round Swinley. Sweet Jesus of Nazareth it was quick!!! PaulD isn't Human, I don't reckon, but some form of superfit alien, sent down to make us all feel inadequate.

Trails were soooooo dry and fast. Unfortunately, someone had to go and spoil it for others though din't they mentioning no names but he lives on Hayling Island and rides an old plastic bike and is sponsored by a banana company.... 🙄 He was like bloody Lewis Hamilton, cutting people up and overtaking etc. So rude and inconsiderate.

Oi, Dezinald! Whe'ya pictures dem?

Fair bloody play to yer. Some of those climbs are nasty enough with gears, let alone without any! 😯
