Norway was nice. Relentless snow every night, POW madness I tell thee. However I can confirm that Avocados are very expensive

DD, make sure there are pics! And, have a bloody great time! Back in time for the rugby?

I had a two year break, and getting back on snow felt brilliant, just brilliant.

Dashed, that looks OK, I suppose. I mean, just OK. 😉 (LOVE IT!)

I know we're a little way off, but once again I have to extend my MASSIVE thanks to everyone on this thread. It's an annual highlight for me, over the last couple of years it's given me vicarious ski trips through your adventures for example, but every year, it's a beacon of what's ace about STW. People sharing their experiences, opinion and enthusiasm with a great sense of humour.

Everyone, give yourselves a hearty pat on the back and a cold beer.

Quick PSA. Sportspursuit have Dakine heli pro rucksacks at £41.99 at the moment.

Does anyone have experience of Blue Tomato? Do Ellis Brigham price match them? I'm after a Jones Aviator 160w, but the wide boards are not reduced in the EB sale yet.

Even in a sale EB are ridiculously expensive. I last used Blue tomato nearly 10 years ago I think. Seemed OK at the time.

Love the retroski stuff!

Funny thing about the fartbag couple above was that they were skiing on an ordinary midweek day, were late 20s to early 30s, and didn't seem to be doing it for the giggles. I got the feeling that was just the kit that they had. Brightened up an already bright day!

Normally I'd agree, but the non-wide aviator at EB is the lowest price I can find at the moment (plus I can pick up from the CasVegas store)

[Edit] Do prices tend to drop any further than the current March sales?

I must say that snowboarder looks like a right t*t. I imagine he had a TechNine board and an irrational hatred of skiers.

And those fancy schmancy Split Rollers too: £63 for men's 65L, £65 for women's 100L.

I used Blue Tomato last year for a Jones Mountain Twin.

No problems and probably the best delivery tracking system I've ever experienced. From their shop/warehouse to the local depot, regional depot, their airport, my airport and so on - about 15 or so tracked stages right to my desk at work. Fantastic.

Of course a good tracking system is no reason in itself to buy from them and they may have changed couriers.

And Flashy, it's not spring. It's not going to be spring until after Easter. Hopefully. Although someone is mowing grass outside at the moment. Cold weather, think cold weather.

Nevis range up in the top 5 for freshies this week with 30cm of new snow.

5 pyrenean resorts in the top 10 for total snow depth. Spring might well be on the way but there'lkl be skiing in the pyrenees for some weeks yet. this is how Gavarnie looked at the weekend after the last storm

Actually, I've seen Nevis in the "charts" several times over the past few seasons when I've been paying attention to this kind of thing.

I got it from [url=

g's facebook page, the got it from the local tourist body's page. No idea who compiled the stats

Nevis. Interesting a couple of mates of mine are going up there tomorrow, perhaps it's not so daft after all.

Nevis is awesome when it has decent snow and weather, though I prefer Glenshee purely for the Glas Maol.

Glencoe is one of my favourite resorts. Had a great day skiing the Goose @ Nevis in fresh snow. Conditions at Glenshee were less optimal so it's not high on my list 🙂

Getting a lot colder and the warm weather pattern finally seems to have shifted. Snow Forecast is for a big dump on Monday but I'll believe it when I see it at the moment....

Oh dear my 10 year old skis are completely knackered.

What's a girl to do?

Get some brand new spangley, all singing all dancing new one's of course 🙂

I had one of the best days skiing ever at Nevis range a few years ago, Fresh powder, sun came out in the afternoon and hardly anyone out. Shame about the mt restaurant though. I much prefer the base Glencoe one or Casbar, Cairngorm.

Water skis seem to be all the rage, Bunnyhop.

I've just lit the wood burner on the plain, that means it's snowing heavily up the hill. I reckon this weekend and early next week will be some of the best skiing of the year in France. Fresh snow on a deep base and sunshine.

Ski wise, I had a go on these;
[img] [/img]
Nordica NRGY100

and these

[img] [/img]
Salomon Q98

Of the two, I think I just preferred the Nordica. The Salomon had super light tips, which felt lovely in the treelined stuff, but a bit weak on the piste, but the Nordicas were just a bit more "powerful" feeling over the whole mountain. Loads of float for pow, but still quite fun on the groomers.

Probably won't be doing any biking (both mates have knackered shoulders) but be good to meet up. Where do you usually après?

Keep an eye out for three 40 year old Scottish guys fannying about on boards or drinking heavily.

Booked # 2
Fly out sat to La Plagne , got an amazing £199 on a week in a catered chalet , going solo with no single supplememnts.
Got a not so good £210 return flight from Soton to GVA , plus £44 one way transfer. still unsure of how to get from LaP to GVA on the way home as the early trasnfer bus is full .
Just got to work out if my skis are in the £210 or not , and how to get to Aime station at 0545 which will be in a private taxi probably ,unless I can ski down the road...

Singletrackmind - I'm out in La Plagne next week too, Belle Plagne. Happy to meet up and ski a bit if you want? What kind of stuff do you like to ski?

As to conditions, the forecasts have gone a bit, well vague... Unless they are not broken and it's going to be wall to wall sunshine and 17 degrees 😯

Hi, Normally ski off piste , but the heatwave means that probably wont be happening. Happy to ski anything pisted ,prefer reds and blacks though. Look for fun features like gulleys and chutes to play on as well.

Not a park boi though , too old and brittle for that nonsense.

Shame its gone to spring skiing so early, still should be warm for afternoon beers.

Will pm you some contact details. I have bought a LaP pass with1 day in Les arcs . Rob

Hi Rob - definitely sounds good, sounds like we are similar ability. I'm 41 now so not in to park stuff myself!

I've already paid for an off piste guided session on Wednesday with reflex (as I didn't fancy going off piste by myself)

Contact dunc as Ashto at hot ma il dot com

Glenshee looking good there Geoffj 8)

Oh and Bunnyhop, the Casbar is no more at Cairngorm, they've turned it into some gray dull shop with only a couple of overpriced clothing rails as I discovered when I popped my head in the door a couple of weeks ago 🙁

Good skiing weather and people are moaning. It's only a week ago that resorts were closed half the week with a few token pistes open for a few hours on the other days.

It'll be great: five degrees overnight will still allow the snow to freeze so you have firm groomed pistes first thing that will soften up nicely without turning to soup.

There was always a shop in there, but the cairngorm operators seem determined to discourage the skiiers. Odd, I suppose, but hey, what do I know - I'm just a bloke who likes siding around on snow, not someone who runs a [s]ski area[/s] leisure facility for rich day trippers that needs to run even when there's snow on the ground

Hey at least it is snow, not rain. (Up top anyway)

Don't know if you've seen the depressing photos of Whistler earlier in this thread but they are having a shocker of a season out there.

Feel free to join whatnobeer and us in the Longhorn.
