Little video from my trip to The Dolomites the other week. Group holiday so just playing about in slackcountry mainly. I'm the guy in red jacket, green cargos - bloke filming is my mate Ali.

Our first time filming with a GoPro. Lessons learned: you need to get REALLY CLOSE otherwise you get a lot of white and a tiny little dot. Pole works well, filming each other from a distance doesn't.

4 days of work then off to Slovakia. 😀 🙂

Yeah I've been sniffing around the sales too.

I wonder if these nice and bright jackets will still be in next winter, more so my motionless body can be easier spotted than for fashion, but I would quite like one...

Yeah I've learnt this too - makes for some fun close proximity boarding! I've just been holding mine in my hand with the right angle attachment as handle. Have also had some fun results with the Chesty mount on front and back on skiers, I tried it hip mounted on the board but my arms just wave around right infront of it and it soon gets tiring to watch.

Went down to Xscape with elder son (6) yesterday, and I've worked out why he's so fast.

He can turn whenever he wants to - he just doesn't want to. So he just straight lines it whenever and wherever he can.

Ah well, we'll see if another week in the Alps gets him paralleling properly and teach him the sheer joy of a nicely carved turn.

Including the frankly pornographic WhiteDoctor stuff.

I appear to be going skiing again.
Booked flights to Munich , on Avios so basically free. Sorting hire car now . Intend on booking a pension 12km out of St Anton at a place called Flirsch. 1 problem, I rang to make a confirmation , but I don't speak German , and she didnt speak Engleeesh.
Hopefully the email I sent using Google translate will make some sense.
Anyone with any useful German want to book a B & B for me ?
Might visit Sonnehopkf and Warth -Shrocken if we can sort the logistics ( and a translator )

Just ask this question;

welche ist die beste Bordell in Flirsch?

No need to thank me.

Sorry , But Xmas in La Plagne was very good but wasnt long enough. The 3 vallees trip had its moments but felt i could squeeze in another adventure.
The pension is only Eu29 pppn , so not expecting much and we will have to fend for ourselves in the evenings.
Dont worry CFH , I will take some pictures for you.
The only german i learnt last time was luftkrakenwagon.

hammerite, sorry, just seen yours.

Just in case it's still relevant, we stayed at the Sporting Ravelli right next to the lift in Marileva 900. Takes about an hour to get to M di C, quite a lot of flat blues and 4/5 lifts. Bit of a bumpy, busy ballache racing back for the last lift down (you can't ski from 1400-900)

Alright one or twice, but we really enjoyed M di C, so drove over on the last day - only takes 30 mins, and you're only paying for a single area. Don't think we skied to Folgarida, but it's easier to get to from Marileva than MdC.

Passo Tonale on the Paradiso side would be amazing with some fresh snow and a clear day. And prob well after fresh if you prepared to go looking. Also 30 mins drive from Marileva 900

No worries, thanks for reply. It's still relevant, love knowing about different places and had seen a deal for Marilleva last week, which I can't take but now know in case I see another in the future.

Didn't look that fast - though I suspect the wide-angle lens makes it deceptively slow.

Have to say Graham, having videoed myself at 40-ish mph I was disappointed at how slow it looked when I watched back!

Looks like the course flows quite a bit more than the Vancouver course with all those rectangular blocks all over the place. Good job they have those flags on the crests nightmare to spot in bad light (although I guess the racers know the course like the back of their hand by race time).

Yeah I guess if the rider is smooth (or the image is stabilised) then it doesn't help either.

The Ski Sunday piste-cams always seem to catch the speed quite well - but I guess they splice in a lot of third-person viewpoints too.

Looks pretty fast to me!

I have one short vid of me on holiday (taken by GF) where I felt I was going a bit quick but actually looks like I'm barely moving down a slight gradient 😳

Well after a silly amount of prevarication I've blown my beans on a week in Chamonix.

First ski trip to Scotland and the weather gods have been very generous. No wind, zero cloud and not too chilly. Off to Glencoe today so hopefully it'll be the same over there.

..but by Sunday morning I'll be on the snow 😀

Thumbs up for lastminute.com

After having a 'polite' word with them about selling a ski holiday where the resort closes the day after I arrive, they have come back to me with.........

..........a brand new apartment in Flaine, ski in/out to the door with swimming pool, sauna, gym etc. for the same price!!!. Woooohooooo 😀

Alpe d'Huez a week ago for us - bloody marvellous snow (as they say in the provinces, "POW, baby"). Not sure the resort'll become a favourite but the snow made it fantastic

PS, If I understood the French geezer correctly, the route that the megavalanche goes down is for grannies 😉

Sad news.
It somehow looks like the girl was standing up. The safety bar was down, so she must have gone over the top.
In all my many years of skiing I've never come across this before.
RIP.

Fab pics of scotland. Just booked a holiday there!! Should be hitting Aviemore and The Lecht. Looks like the snowline isnt too low as we're thinking about taking our bikes aswell.

Any good trails near to avimore/lecht area?

Just had a fantastic sledging session opposite our chalet in Morzine. My first time sledding ever and I loved it. Bring on the first day of skiing tomorrow

...and the legs shouldn't ache after a week in Cervinia. It's all pretty easy stuff, although good fun to have a blast on as they're all really long runs.

The photo looks like it was taken from the terrace of the hotel we stayed in last Christmas too.

2 things I have learnt this week are. Its really hard to ski with a bad ankle, so much so I got really angry with it yesterday. And in the absence of proper snow boots 5:10s are brilliant on ice. I'm the only one who hasn't fallen over on ice in the village in our group.

Good luck I Ache. One of the challenges for me in Arabba was walking round the bend in ski boots every morning without sliding into the middle of the road, the camber was most tricky. It was only a 50 metre walk to the slopes!
