How on earth do you survive being shot in the head? I thought that pretty much as soon as any part of your brain got harmed it was game over.

Anyone got any info about this? Interested more in the biology of this, rather than the reasons for the shooting etc

Fiddy Cent got capped in the face.

That's why he's such a good rapper.

I'm afraid there's a world of difference in being alive and "living", let's see what happens if she survives long term. Plenty of people survive massive head injuries, including being shot in the head - I think as long as it misses the "core" of the brain, you can survive pretty easily.

i think time will tell how well she has survived and how much of her faculties will be left intact

Who was the paratrooper officer that got shot in the head during the Falklands?
There was a TV movie made of it years ago. IIRC he lost over 40% of his brain, and made a relatively remarkable recovery.

Read earlier that the bullet went through the left side (in at the back of the head and out through the front, ouch) which deals mainly with speech - so this may well be an issue in the future.

Most of her skull has been removed/put on ice to allow for brain swelling and will be replaced in a few weeks......... eeewwww.

I thought it was amusing that one of the oft quoted reasons the Americans state for needing a gun is to defend yourself against armed bad people, and yet this bloke gets disarmed by an unarmed granny who grapples his next magazine off him.
I accept I may not be in fully aware of the real course events though 🙂

That's a hell of a recovery if he went on to become a DJ.

His career as an MC was short lived, every time there was a "Booyaka ! Booyakah!" from the crowd he would dive for cover.

I hear he hit the deck when any track with helicopter or gunshot noises was played.

And his breakdancing would no doubt have suffered - no head spins for him.

Sometimes part of your brain can relearn to take over bits that no longer work. My dad killed off some of his in a stroke, but learned to walk "sort of" over much time with the remaining bits. How much he lost is anyones guess and his ability to make do with whats left is very poor.

You dont loose much blood from a head injury if it misses the main blood supply, so I can see how you would survive - but chances are you would have a reduced quality of life.

Plenty of WWI Soldiers with missing jaw etc and prosthetics for parts of skull etc missing.

Theres also the recent solder in Afghanistan who has had his disability payout reduced as the board feels his memory etc impediments don't warrant so much money.

NICE ONE.

i wonder if her stance on gun control will have changed? although i believe she was described as a pragmatists rather than an advocate on the matter

I am sure I read somewhere that the bullet didn't explode or something, just passed through her brain. But I might have dreamt that..
