Is there a single one that can record panning video without losing focus?I've yet to see any footage from a compact that overcomes this problem - is there a model that can do it? I'm fed up of carrying a bulky mini digital camcorder around and want a compact that can do both photos and videos - BUT without the videos being spoilt by the focus problem.

Any recommendations?

I think the Panny TZ7 can zoom whilst in video mode. DOn't think any others do that?

No idea as to whether this would be indicative of overcoming the focus issues that you mention but perhaps worth a try in a shop somewhere?

I'll have a look at the TZ7 - battery life could be a problem apparently.
May have to consider one of the new mini flash memory camcorders.

Ooked a the tz7 yesterday, fantastic bit of kit... Only downside for me was no manual mode, but the tz8 is out in march which has manual so I'll be looking at that

GF1, I believe you can set a focus point and it will track it regardless, maybe wrong though as I've not tried it, may give it a go later!
