After a few on here recommended the original to me, I wondered if anyone may be interested in this:

Personally, I loved the first one, but The Twelve was very average and tried to spread itself too thinly" Becoming more a dystopian sci-fi book, rather than an apocalyptic horror story that the first one was.

Yep, I pre-ordered it the other week for my missus, she, my brother & I have all enjoyed the previous two. Hopefully this time it will appear, after seemingly years of postponed releases. I'd suggest it still is more dark fantasy, than full on horror though. If you want dystopian sci-fi look no further than the Wool trilogy.
PS. Good thread, would have prompted me to order it 😀

That's the thing: I don't want dystopian sci-fi, I want the horror of the first one. Having said that, I suspect I will get it anyway. I suppose the second one wasn't that bad, just a bit of a letdown. by comparison.

Ooh, ta for the reminder. Was a bit cheesed off when I realised the first book was part of a trilogy

I thought the first one stood up on it's own, though, so the other two aren't essential (another problem of The Twelve).

Read the first one and have avoided the second and third based on feedback similar to this^. Even The Passage wandered a bit aimlessly from time to time in my opinion.
