*or at best half truths

Just another made up TV programme:

Here we see the full exchange (and rather good it is too)

And here we see Nick Robinson's edited version of events as broadcast:

This on the day that it was revealed Call me Dave had meetings with supermarket owners, asking them to publicize their concerns at Scottish independence... oh and it happens to be 9/11 too

If corporation tax is based on the location of economic activity, how come Amazon pay's bugger in in the UK?

It's not really an independence thread- it's a "you are being lied to shamelessly" thread.

So out of curiosity, what is the complaints process?

BUT

it turns out that Salmond was full of the usual

it was the Sun wot done it! They reported it first!

Alex's best mate, the dirty digger!

Also - Peston goes into some detail about the relevance of tax revenues - as corporation tax is not the key issue

Wow that is pretty damning evidence of bias on Robinsons part and he should be ashamed of his "reporting"
AS seemed pretty pleased with the pwning he dished out mind

They use fancy accountants to make sure they dont make any profit here

the above link is admittedly from the US, so maybe not relevant here in good old blighty, what, after all those pesky americans will do anything, no? i was searching for a clip showing a cnn using a woman as an eyewitness to two completely unrelated events, in different areas, using different names...of course, it wouldn't happen here...

That's pretty damning, who has editorial control is it the reporter or a producer with an agenda?

It is just one example of the malaise of institutional bias the Beeb suffers from. If the vote is a narrow one this sort of evidence will be cited qs cause for legitimate grievance. It won't be over next Friday, whatever happens...

Nick Robinson is correct - Salmond didn't answer the question: "Why should a Scottish voter trust you.....?"

I heard Salmond on R4 yesterday evening, a full unabridged interview. He came across (to me at least) as devious, evasive and slimey. He didn't answer any of the questions put to him.

That's how I seen it to Salmond waffled on and was very uncomfortable when the question was being asked, then avoided answering so why give him the pleasure of his waffle.

The BBC and Nick Robinson have got some explaining to do.

Salmond did not answer the question and indeed attacked the reporter who asked a simple and direct question going to the root of his character. All this in a "press conference" that was packed with cheering Yes supporters.

Nick removed a direct reference to the BBC and replaced it with a mention of "metropolitan media".

In the Cockwomble Olympics I don't know who to give the gold medal to.

You know I cannot bloody wait until this time next week when it will all be over and we won't have to listen to the constant drivel from politicians and people who equate "political discourse" with sharing a link on Facebook and shouting down anyone who has the audacity to hold a different opinion to the one they do.

It's all Salmond's fault. Him and that Mel Gibson, and their friends in Al Qaeda. If they hadn't stirred things up I'd have had a birthday this year 🙁

Sadly, I don't think the gobshite index is going to be drastically reduced for some time. Plenty of post-match crowing to come, whatever the result.

But it saves me having to worry about forgetting my wife's birthday, so it's not all bad.

Salmond did answer, so Robinson's being disingenuous. But Salmond didn't answer the question directly and waffled on (naively) about corporation tax regulations.

I also heard it and i agree. I thought he really struggled and also sounded very weary. But Eddie Mair is a much better journalist than Nick Robinson, and an interview is more exploratory than a press conference.

I think Corporation tax is paid on the profit a company reports in the particular country it is incorporated (ie. where it renders its annual accounts). Threatening to move your registered office from Edinburgh to London could be a real threat.

But that profit can also be reduced by offsetting against previous years losses or losses reported by closely linked companies.

One sleight of hand involves moving your profit into a low tax juristiction. Thats why there are so many brass plates in places like Bermuda. If Scotland reduced its CT rate to, say 2%, it would be in order to attract the brass plates, not necessarily actual business activity.

(I'm sure a tax accountant could point out errors in what I just wrote).

The Queen presides over the majority of the worlds tax havens, many of which are in the commonwealth.

The worlds wealthiest is Jersey, which is a crown dependency, self governed, but with the Queen holding ultimate authority.

Weird that she should attempt to claim benefits and give the impression of struggling for palace repairs then...

David Cameron & family also have plenty of money tucked away in tax havens all over the world:

Jivehoney - Technically I think you'll find that the Duke of Normandy holds ultimate authority in the Channel Islands 😉
