@onzadog. Yes that’s exactly what they did. I was surprised, then impressed when told it worked before. I then realised that it’s a DC charger and not all the pins would connect, so it wouldn’t work or switch on so left. Was surprised to see it but also shows how little people know about everything works. I am still regularly having to help people looking confused at public chargers
With now only 9 years until diesel is gone, throwing 20k on 2nd hand diesel GLC in the interim seems a waste and that we’d be throwing a Merc away in 2030.
What is your understanding thats happening to diesel fuel in 9 years?
Never even occurred to me that the it's would all fit, let alone actually charge a car.
It all fits but by design it's impossible to charge anything with it.
we’d be throwing a Merc away in 2030.
Diesels aren't being banned in 2030 for goodness' sake. Sale of new ones is being banned (probably 2035) but the ones sold in 2034 will be on the road for a good while. I doubt I'll be driving when the last one leaves the road for the last time, I might not even be alive.
A bank of 6 at Ludlow Sainsbury's lost 5 of their high speed cables. Seems like the same gang went around all over the West Mids nicking them. What's the price of copper now?

Yesterday 9707.50 USD / 1000kg
If you can cope with smallish battery 43kwh there's some insanely cheap lease deals on the Puma Gen-E.
Big boot for a small car too.
From around £129 a month with a 12 month deposit. (I'd always knock the deposit right down though and hang on to capital )
Even if you take the miles up it's still a good one.
Sorry, are you saying they ran an AC lead between the CCS connector in a DC fast charger and their car?
Never even occurred to me that the it's would all fit, let alone actually charge a car.
Thinking about it, that may well work, the home charger on my Golf Hybrid which i assume is similar to an A3, is the same as the CCS if you pull out a plug in the car, so i assume if you attach the ends of the supplied cable to the charger cable and car it will "work".
Only if the CCS cable from the charger has the AC delivery pins. If you compare pictures of CCS and type 2 you should see that on a CCS cable there are only the three communication/earth pins in the top part. A quick search suggests those pins are never present and that there is more likely to be a dedicated AC socket or cable.
Taking the chat away from charging for a bit, I took the P2 to Goodwood circuit for another track day (morning..).
Was prob my favourite circuit i've driven - which is good as it's my closest by a long shot!
Here's a quick video of a flying lap:
The tyres and KW shocks really make a difference..plus I feel I'm getting more confident on the track too.
It was a RUDDY hot day (>30deg) , and the car was throttling the power delivery after about 5 laps - likely due to the heat.
I could have done with taking a few of my zwift fans to blow through the front rads when I was in the pits!!

Dropped my car off at Hyundai for a service today. Seven cars in the showroom five electric. Including an Ioniq 9 which looked brilliant. Absolutely massive, very much business class inside. The size of big SUV but lower roof and lower floor so it felt really spacious. Big enough to cause issues on certain road though I reckon - the reception lady said they'd had trouble getting it in the showroom.
They also had Insters - much smaller than they look, a real city car. Tiny but you sit really quite high which is quite fun.
I was working at a big EV conference this week.
Thing I noticed the most only 2 Teslas on their stand and BYD had 8 cars on show.
They all looked great.
Were you at Cenex Rone? Any sign of the Kia PV5 and Ford Courier Tourneo EV?
I work for the host company (on a different site) and keep meaning to get down for it one year.
Picked up my EV6 today, bit shocked to find my current insurer wouldn't quote to cover it. Anyway got sorted through LV. Think I've sorted charging out, swapped Octopus tariffs and linked my Ohme app with Octopus. Can't really test it all as the car came fully charged. Planning a 300 mile journey on Saturday which should be interesting.
Were you at Cenex Rone?
No it was Kinetic and more focussed on collision etc. but there were lots of Evs there
Quentin Wilson (he hasn't changed in 30 years) did a fair bit on energy.
We collected our ID7 Tourer last weekend, a nearly new match Pro. So far only done the drive home, 50 mins motorway in nasty conditions. Two things struck me, it's very quiet and feels effortless on the motorway. All setup and working with IOG despite having a crap charger (smart feature has failed). Wife gets the first real test next week with Southampton to south Lakes.
More newbie questions. I've set everything up, Ohme charger is linked to Octopus tariff, all good. Can't get the Kia app to pair without, seems like the Api link doesn't work after some Googling so the charger won't know what % the battery is at. So I've set the max AC charge to 80% in the Kia app and left all the scheduling stuff offensive the car app. I assume now once I plug in the Ohme app works with Octopus to select charging times but the car will control the max charge? It's the intelligent Octopus tariff. Assume then kn the occasions I want a full charge I just set the car app to 100% AC charging. Left the DC charge limit at 100%. I'm assuming the car app will override the charger app.
What you described is how I charge my Audi with a Hypervolt. Set the limit in the car, all other car timers cleared, and the Octopus App controls the Hypervolt Charger. Change the limit in the car when you want 100%.
Thats what i do, set charge % on Kia app, hypervolt is set to charge between 0000-0700. Plug it in and it does its thing
^^, same with my EV3 and Easee One charger. I’m on Octopus Go as Intelligent Octopus isn’t compatible with the car or the charger (needs at least one to be compatible)
I have the car set to 80% limit AC, and to charge in time slot 0030 - 0530. Nothing set on charger, so car dictates.
I have an EV6 and an Ohme Home Pro charger. Charge limits are set at 80% for DC charger and 100% for AC charger in the KIA app.
I also have several 'Routines' set up in the Ohme app: An every day charge to 80%, a long trip charge to 100% and a charge and heat for the winter.
I just select which routine I want before plugging the car in and it has worked well for the last 2 years.
What used EV for ~£25k? I nearly pulled the trigger on a 2022 Genesis GV60 for £24,750 but at the last minute I realised it didn't have heated seats which for a car with a list price of £45-50k is ridiculous. I'll probably wait for another GV60 to come up which ticks all the boxes but any other suggestions? I've discounted the Model Y and Polestar because of the poor ride quality.
You'd get a very nicely specc'd Jaguar I-Pace for that.
Loads of choice at that price range. Too much to name one. But don't get an iPace!
iPace look ok but I've got an aversion to JLR based on previous experience. Just had another email from the dealer I was talking to and they have some more GV60s coming in from Octopus Energy so I'll probably hold out for one of those.

How about a KGM Torres EVX? BYD drivetrain and a decent sized car for lugging stuff around. I might take a look myself to see if their 2nd hand prices are coming down.
The Kia API does work with ohme charger and app, it just takes a bit of time. Ours did but works fine for 6+months now. 2021 E-Niro with Ohme home pro charger

Same here. I leave the car settings completely dumb and do everything through the Ohme app. Note that there have been free leccy sessions from IOG lately, you just need to leave your car plugged in to get a free hour's credit.
So after a full 5 weeks I finally have my ID7 back! To recap, it was abandoning fast charges after 5 mins or so. It turns out they think it was a faulty AC compressor, which was causing thermal management errors and then the abandoning of fast charge and red drivetrain errors. Fingers crossed, I did a trial fast charge last night (garages are beyond useless, they tested fast charging on a 22kwh AC charger) and it seems ok!
BMW i4s are available for about £25k now and are very good cars indeed. Genuinely long range, drives “like a BMW should”, great ride etc and it’s a practical hatchback. Only downside is the relatively cramped rear seats.
^^ I seriously considered making an offer for my Tusker lease one which was returned at the end of June, with just over 20k miles and 2 yrs old. I had it from new and it was mint, though I had always charged to 100% which I probably wouldn’t do on a non lease car. It only went back as I was unexpectedly moving to a retirement career option !
The business model with Tusker is that they go to auction, so if you want to buy it you either need to either bid at the auction, or make them an early high offer to prevent it going to auction at all.
My sensible head prevailed and I bought a brand new pre registered EV3 instead.. cheaper VED, cheaper tyres, insurance etc.
Well I've definitely popped my charging cherry. As you all said set the charge limit on the app and let the Ohme charger do the rest. Set the AC on the car app to 80% last night and it's charged to 80% this morning. Ohme charger is deciding when to charge, even blocks of time outside the 23:30 to 05:30 off peak rate. Also did a 300 mile trip yesterday. Topped up about 35% on an Instavolt charger in around ten minutes, bit pricey but very conventional. Found the chargers easily using Google maps, provided all the details needed. No other app needed, just tapped the phone on the card reader to start and stop, dead simple.
Seem to be getting around 3.4 miles per kWh so around 2p a mile running costs when home charging. There really is no reason to stick with ICE if you can home charge apart from the initial cost.

Totally get the GV60. Best car I ever had even though it lacked heated seats.
I’ll be getting another one this time next year
I asked this question on the charging thread but didn’t really get an answer…
Why do electric cars need so much parking space whilst charging? I’ve noticed this at various places we stop off on holidays, less parking places for normal vehicles. It was particularly noticeable the other day in Portmadog where six supermarket parking spaces had been reduced to three. Is it because electric cars are larger or do you need space for cable management?
Photos, wheelsonfire? You often have two cars per charge point so six cars in three bays. Absolutely no difference in size compared with normal parking bays on the charge points I use.
Sorry, no pictures unless I go next week to pick up some of the excellent alcohol free beer, I’ll try and describe -
A parking area near the carpark entrance, pavement on the left, right, behind. Previously marked for six cars, now for three with hatched markings in between the centre car and both outer cars, a bit like disabled parking but perhaps larger.
This trend is particularly noticeable at established service stations like Scotch Corner where normal parking (already at a premium) has been much reduced for a long line of electric only, again with large spaces and large hatched areas between.
It could be that they all need to be 'accessible' eg. Wheelchair access etc ? I do think cable length / Charing points is a factor.
I did note, while on holiday in Scotland, some of the Chargeplace Scotland chargers spaces were challenging, in that if I parked centrally there was no way I could get the cable to reach!

Because the charger cable has a minimum bend radius and can stick out either side of the car. The space between needs to be enough that two cars can be charging but still enough space to walk between.
Same reason they don’t use normal sized parking spaces between petrol pumps.
Possibly so the cables don't get run over or tangled up? Spaces for cars seem to be same as normal width.
Of course if all EVs had a charging port on the front like my Leaf this wouldn't be an issue.
Problem with that is it requires forward parking which we all know is wrong 😜
Away from the politics anyone taking advantage of the government's EV subsidy scheme?
£3750 for top tier. The Puma is looking like the sweet spot deal certainly got lease companies who are putting these out for bonkers monthly prices.
There's very little pressure about this that I've seen.

That's a good shout as I'm currently driving a 3 series GT so not dissimilar. Just checked on the website that I was thinking of buying the GV60 from and they have a 2x2023 with 94% battery scores and a 2024 with a 95% score which is a worry.

Mad that the heated seats come as part of a ~£3k option pack
...and they have a 2x2023 with 94% battery scores and a 2024 with a 95% score which is a worry.
The perceived wisdom is that the biggest drop in battery capacity happens very quickly and then it's pretty stable.
I'm planning on test driving a Jaecoo when the EV version is available at my local dealer, should be interesting if nothing else.
I actually really like my MG ZS for some reason but it's just not got quite the range or charging speed I regularly need so starting to look at alternatives and I always enjoy yolo-ing into the unknown so the Jaecoo 5 might well fit the bill. Plus there's a petpack inc a dogbowl so really, what else is there?
