I was listening to Lenny Bruce today, laughing, but wondering why. I often do.

Some discernable preamble-punchline stuff but mostly stream of consciousness ramblings.

I got on to thinking about how "funny people" find a way to tell the story in the right way, and how to learn/practice it.

Anyone here liked the sound of their own voice enough to try stand up or write/publish jokes?

Be aware that some people just aren't funny. Not saying you aren't but just be aware of that! ๐Ÿ˜†

I wrote and performed a 30 minute standup routine last year.

It took a few run throughs beforehand to get the wording and delivery right.

It was terrifying and exciting in equal measure, I'd definitely do it again

A mate of mine has been on the comedy circuit around London for a few years and has recently given up work for a year to have a proper go at being a full time comedian. I've always found him funny but it's a hugely brave move for him and I suppose it's different when you know somebody...

I don't do Facebook or Twitter but he spends hours writing material and tries a lot of it out on there to get an idea of what works.
