Guessing some of you may already know, some of you must know of them The Black Dog. Formative member Ken Downie passed 23rd Dec. Just a few days before saw an Instagram post about a new release from them (Mid November). I knew them of them around 1991, these in particular I remember from tapes mate's did for me that were listened to repeatedly.

But wasn't until much more recently I knew the names of this stuff.

Am sad.

Bit niche at times (ambient techno inspired by brutalist architecture in their recent incarnation) but sometimes brilliant and never less than interesting or stubbornly steering their own path.

Never heard of them - while I have wide-ranging tastes in music, techno/dance/whatever holds no interest to me at all.

They do much more than that.

Yeah, I imagine with so many genres it’s easy to be insulated as to an entire musical movement/spectrum that defined the 90’s 😉

I knew Ron from meeting “The Black Dog” up at a mates record label in the 90’s and from the festival scene, very ****ing sad indeed and utterly unexpected, I received this painting from Martin Dust last month to accompany the new album……Got every Black Dog release and I’ve been working my way through their catalog for the last few days…….

Damn shame - found their music relatively recently thanks to Spotify's Smart Shuffle and was enjoying discovering their catalogue.

This one was always my favourite. Or maybe Parasight:

Nearly got to see Black Dog live, as a friend was running a club, knew their label well and booked them. But only Ed and Andy showed, as they'd just split. So technically the first Plaid gig.

My thoughts exactly! I don't really know how anyone can claim to have eclectic taste but then basically say 'electronic music is worthless'

Anyway

Black Dog are great. Some fantastic records over the years

RIP

RIP Ken. Spanners is one of my favourite albums and I shall stick it on later.

I think Bjork did some vocals on Not For Threes, so there is a tenuous link.

Big fan too and have most of the 90s vinyl.
Was in Amsterdam 15-20 years ago and unexpectedly saw them live which was great.
