Upon the recommendation of several people on here I read this book recently, and it really grabbed me, obviously a bit too much as I got a bit carried away by the factual nature of some of it.
Anyway, one thing I was convinced was genuine was the town of monimaskit, and the black jaws gorge, I'm 99% positive I found both of them on geograph/OS maps. Now though searching google or geograph just brings up references to the book.
Do either of these places exist, or was I just drinking too much when I read the book... 😳
It took me a while to realise it wasn't non-fiction!
Doesn't it say in the notes or whatever that it's based on real places, but with 'artistic license'?
Great book though
Yeah, I was a bit embarassed when someone pointed it out to me...
I think the remains of someone, later identified as a Gideon Mack, were found on Ben Alder, but short of that I don't know which bits were true or which were false.
