Hi folks,

Got two weeks in tenerife booked for the summer. I'll be doing a few uplift days with lavatrax so that's the important stuff covered, whats worth a trip for the rest of our time there? Sian waterpark looks good, anything else you would recommend?

Cheers

Sian is very good but you're not allowed to run in the wave pool so everyone walks into it with their arms up like zombies 🙂

Some good walks along the coast if you're into that sort of thing.

Any coast/ beach you would recommend? Is it worth a trip up the mountain?

Is it worth a trip up the mountain?

Dunno cause the lift upto the top was shut when we went due to high winds, so it was an overprice coffee and cake and home to resort.

Lots to do for kids. El Duque (Costa adeje) is a lovely coast/beach and only about 3/4km from las americas. You could think your in another country its really lovely, lots of nice shopping, bars & restaurants. Take a trip up the mountain, great adventure for the kids, get the bus from the station in las americas, takes you right up to the cable car and only a few euros. There is a tourist bus/train thing that is good fun and goes all along the coast (through Adeje actually)
Lavatrax are ace too, say hi to Daz and Mike

Go up the mountain, hire a car and do the north side of the island a lot greener and lots of mountains. Good riding there as well.

Been to tenerife many times, personally if I was going to tenerife, I'd go scuba diving, it's really very good.

Whereabouts are you staying? There aren't that many "proper" beaches, the one at las americas is fake, there is a nice (yellow) sand beach at Abades with good snorkelling possible. There are numerous little coves around the coast with small black sand beaches in, but can be a bit remote and lack amenities. There's another big man made beach at Santa Cruz - Playa de la teresitas.

Los Gigantes is nice, think you can do boat trips round the cliffs. Tourist boat trips to see whales from Los Cristianos are a bit lame IMO but you do see (pilot) whales, maybe if you found a proper (more nature orientated) operator they might take you out and find big whales.

The cable car to the top of tiede, hmm. often it's in or above the cloud, so you can't see much of the island anyway, the trip to the canadas del tiede is worth it IMO, it's pretty awesome.

Barranca del Inferno is a nice easy and very pretty walk from adeje, above the main tourist area (the official website says it's closed for safety reasons, but might be worth a look anyway)

Loro Parque is a great zoo, which has an indoor penguin house that you traverse on a travelator!?! It's definitely worth doing, I do think it's kind of missing the point going to a subtropical island to do stand in a freezing, snowy room, but maybe if you have a rainy day or whatever.

A submarine operates from the Marina at Golf del Sur, but the area it dives in has a featureless sandy bottom, so I doubt it's very interesting, apart from the experience of going in a sub.

Candelaria, La Oratava, Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz are all nice. The westernmost point Buenavista del Norte is quite cool.

There's a path along the coast from Golf del sur to el Medano, which apparently offers great wind/kitesurfing. It's got a huge natural light sand beach, but can be very windy.

You can take the ferry to La Gomera which is a biosphere reserve with rainforest.

Depends what your family is into. There's a cactus park. I've been there. Lot of cacti.

Thanks all! Lots of ideas there. The girls are 14 and 16 and my lad is 11. We are staying in a villa in the el roque area and I'm planning on hiring a car for the fortnight as it's a bit far to the beach for my lad to walk as he has cerebral palsy. Plenty of suggestions to look in to, the dolphin watching/snorkelng etc sounds good

These pics were all taken snorkelling at a beach round the side of the island you're staying. I'll see if I can dig out the location.
